197710 2003-12-05 22:59:00 Hi, we have a network going at the moment, but for one computer because i think for one reason. It does not shutdown properly and two the Clients for Microsoft Network does not come up. This is on a win98se computer. Jimmy D (2061)
197711 2003-12-05 23:37:00 What OSs are on the other computers? and do they have firewalls installed and functioning? mark.p (383)
197712 2003-12-06 00:36:00 2 XPS and 2 98se (that are going) and one win98se that is not going. We just installed a Realtek card and installed drivers and everything.

I think the problem lives in windows 98 not being able to shutdown and save the settings. We have the primary network logon on Clients for Microsoft Network but it comes up with Windows Logo.

We have tried the shutdown patch.

We have just taken out the realtek card and put in a Belkin card and it wouldn't start up normally (may have been caused i changed it to "Normal Startup" in msconfig but we have changed that back.

The problem is it not restarting (hangs at shutdown screen) and the Clients for Microsoft Networks is not showing up.

197713 2003-12-06 00:56:00 Sounds like an IRQ or base i/o address problem. Does the win98 have any shutdown/startup probs without the cards in? mark.p (383)
197714 2003-12-06 01:27:00 yes it does .

We can't get the Windows Logon to go away and CLients for Microsoft network to come up

197715 2003-12-06 01:44:00 Okay, we are on the computer that had the problems (i am using the net form this, but we cannot ping or see any of the other computers on the network, all firewalls and such like are off, how to we proceed from here? MrBeef (342)
197716 2003-12-06 01:48:00 You mean you can't right-click network nieghborhood and select properties-primary logon-windows logon? mark.p (383)
197717 2003-12-06 01:58:00 yeh we can.

At the moment, the computer that was having problems (this computer form which i am on the internet with) can use the internet but it cannot see any computers on the network for the reason that Clients for microsoft network logon dialogue does not come up.
