197573 2003-12-05 07:23:00 I as with Mega man have not grasped the difference between Outlook Express and Microsoft Outlook. Are they both Microsoft programs and which is the best and why? olldaddy76 (2539)
197574 2003-12-05 07:34:00 Outlook Express is an email and newsgroup program.

Outlook is the whole shebang with calendar, taskpad, journal entries, etc.

197575 2003-12-05 10:01:00 Outlook is one of the component programs in Microsoft Office (along with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access) and is not normally supplied with a PC, unless a lot of money is paid.

As an example, Microsoft Office can add up to $600 to the price if bought with a new PC.

Outlook is a very complete package of a diary, calendar, contact manger journal and email client. Its commonly used in many businesses.

Outlook Express on the other hand is bundled free with Windows, is email and news group only and is widely used by home PC users, mostly because they don't know there are other choices.

Outlook Express is competent but perhaps a bit complex for whats needed, but my main concern is that it is a natural target for every virus writer.

I use Outlook for contact mangement, but use Eudora for all e-mail as its seldom targeted by virus writers, being a non microsoft product. Its also a pleasure to use.
