197599 2003-12-05 07:44:00 My AMD K6 500. Power cuts off after about 10 to 15 minutes after boot up, just as if it was switched off at the wall. I have noticed the fan in the power pack is not going. I have replaced with another atx power pack and the fan in that is also not going, and it cuts out. Could this be a fault in the M.Board or RAM?
Any suggestions would be appreciated

197600 2003-12-05 10:06:00 Odd.

In my experience the PSU fans are supplied from the +12v rail in the PSU itself. This rail will be active as long as the PSU is working (as in the PC is drawing power)

For it to not be going when the PC is going is, in my opinion, unlikely to be a fault in anything but the PSU itself.

197601 2003-12-05 10:33:00 Check the condition of the atx power connector on your motherboard. As godfather correctly stated, the PSU fan runs off the +12v rail.
For the fan to work correctly power must first be drawn from the motherboard for a complete circuit to be made.

This behaviour can be illustrated by unplugging the atx power cable from the motherboard and seeing what happens, ie nothing because the PSU requires the motherboard to complete the circuit.

So my opinion on this is that you could replace the PSU with a new one until the cows come home, but it is unlikey to fix anything.

197602 2003-12-05 10:37:00 off tht top of my head...i would suspect cpu. check heatsink and fan. it could be motherboard shutting down the pc due to cpu overheating. strip it down to the basics and test then swap cpu out and see if it still does it. tweak'e (174)
