197452 2003-12-04 23:26:00 I have Pent 2, 450Mhz, PC100 SD RAM 128Mb and 64Mb and a free slot with Win XP home. Wont to add 256 Mb PC133 two sided. Will BIOS recognise it? Should BIOS be reset and how? Thanks, Taly. Taly (4598)
197453 2003-12-04 23:58:00 My first bit of advice would be to read your motherboard manual and find out what the maximum amount of installable ram is on you board.

With your system bus running at 100MHz and your current memory running at 100MHz, any 133MHz memory you add will automatically underclock to 100MHz.

If your motherboard can handle the extra ram, there is nothing else you need to do. The bios should automatically detect it.

197454 2003-12-05 00:15:00 Thanks. Problem, no mboard manual and can't find the manufacturer. Got it secondhand from a kid. Taly Taly (4598)
197455 2003-12-05 00:20:00 Use AIDA32 (aida32.hu) to find the motherboard model, then do a google search for it's manual somebody (208)
197456 2003-12-05 00:23:00 My experience on PCs of that vintage has been that they don't always recognise sticks above 128 MB.

If you look carefully on the motherboard there is usually a make and/or model number that can be used to search Google, where a manual can usually be downloaded.

197457 2003-12-05 06:05:00 yes it'll underclock to the speed of the slowest ram...........however double sided ram is MUCH more likely to be 'fully' recognized than single in a system of that vintage.........

just plop it in and see what happens you wont do any harm
