198050 2003-12-07 04:30:00 Would the 'PC Company Recovery Disc' install WindowsXP on a new hard-drive? Craig (448)
198051 2003-12-07 04:36:00 should do. i think someone here has done it. however make sure the pc will work with the new drive. a poster once had to flash his bios so the drive would work but the recovery disk woudn't work as the bios flash made the pc a "non-PcCO pc". tweak'e (174)
198052 2003-12-07 04:44:00 Damn PC Company... Craig (448)
198053 2003-12-07 04:48:00 not really......comman problem to all supermarket pc's. some even require there own make of hardrive otherwise the recovery cd will not work. you get what pay for ;-) tweak'e (174)

I think it will only work if you still have the copy of XP (as installed by the PCCo) on a hidden partition. If its anything like a PackardBell computer, then you need the original OS still on the harddrive as well as having to uninstall all aditional installed components. ie: it has to be exactly like it left the factory

If your computers original harddrive is no longer installed in the computer, and you are trying to install a fresh copy of XP, then it will be fat cheese I am afraid. You will have to buy a new copy of XP

198056 2003-12-07 05:51:00 the ast few PcCo pc's i had a look at didn't have a hidden partion. mind you the could have well changes their methods a few times over the years. tweak'e (174)
198057 2003-12-07 07:21:00 Try it Craig, what have you got to lose? Pheonix (280)
198058 2003-12-07 07:40:00 Just wondering as if I am to buy a new PC I'd rather avoid the cost of buying Windows, so I can get a better PC. I could go the linux way, just would prefer Windows. Don't have the computer or the money yet anyway. Craig (448)
198059 2003-12-07 08:56:00 I have a feeling you are going to have to anyway. A computer needs a good OS
Isn't it "illegle" to use an OEM on another computer anyway?
