197922 2003-12-06 13:04:00 Hello, yes another post.

We have finally got CFMN to show, but this is when there is no lan card or tcp/ip to it.

Then it comes up we logon thru that, then windows does its thing and loads the drivers and what-not. Then i go and add setup the network as you do, and then only a "windows restart (shift - restart)" and then the Windows Logon appears.

if you havent been following the problem, this is a win98se machine.
The lan card IS working. Because he can use the net over it thru Windows Logon

197923 2003-12-06 20:01:00 hi..? MrBeef (342)
197924 2003-12-06 20:50:00 Try using the netbeui protocol on that and one other machine. Enable file and printer sharing as well. mark.p (383)
197925 2003-12-06 21:19:00 I dont know if I follow all that exactly but I can tell you that a FULL re-boot is needed if you are doing any thing with network stuff. a quick reboot (shift - restart) will cause problems.

where in NZ are you??

197926 2003-12-07 00:59:00 And then the problem of Windows hanging at the shutdown screen.

We're in Whangarei suburbs - Mangapai

197927 2003-12-07 01:31:00 O.k we installed Netbeui, now we can share between the 3 win98se computers, but we can't ping one another, so we can't play games which is our main reason for it, how to make it so that it will ping? MrBeef (342)
197928 2003-12-07 07:18:00 this ping problem will be to do with TCP/IP settings.

give us a run down of the IP and sub net mask for each system and we will see if we can help

Any chance of sticking to one thread instead of 3?

197930 2003-12-07 07:42:00 I thought that it was only in two threads at this point.....

any how lets keep it all here and leave it at that :-)

197931 2003-12-07 08:00:00 Definately three dealing with this CFMN prob. Agreed this one I'll do ;)
Tends to fregment previous suggestions having more than one dealing with the same prob.
Story so far -new nic/drivers/reinstall over the top with win 98, Ip settings checked-double checked. Can share internet but not ping-real wierd. Using another network protocol (netbuie) proves network connectivety of hardware/ cabling is finde. TCPIP seems to be screwed for some reason unbeknown to anyone but the gods. Oh almost forgot Pc hangs on shutdown as well. Have I missed anything?
