>.k we installed Netbeui, now we can share between the 3 win98se computers, but we can't ping one another,

>now this computer can use the internet thru Windows Logon

lets see if i can gets this right, one of your win98 pc's can access the internet via the lan but cannot ping anyother pc.

are all the firewalls off ? if you can access the net via the lan then tcp/ip is working.

>O.k we installed Netbeui, now we can share between the 3 win98se computers

therefore windows networking is working.

either install netbeui or ipx and it should be working. the problem sounds like netbios has been disabled which is not a bad thing with win98.

198029 2003-12-07 04:34:00 Well, we have finished our "lan party"

You see we want to play games and such like. So then it is necessary for us to be able to ping each other to join games such as CS.

We could share files thru NetBEUI, and when netBeui was installed the CFMN logon box appears at startup, but we remove netbeui, so just tcp/ip and then CFMN does not show up at the next start up.

Yeh, the LAN is working, but he cannot logon to the network because CFMN does not come up for him to, and when this happens he cannot ping anyone or see anyone.

Yeh, we were seriously contemplating formating it.

198030 2003-12-07 04:39:00 Did you check the bindings tab on tcp/ip on the NIC? Should have at least client for MS Networks and print and file sharing(and on the Netbios tab- netbios over tcp/ip should be ticked). mark.p (383)
198031 2003-12-07 04:42:00 correct me if i'm wrong but you don't need to log on for the games to work. its only windows networking that requires the logon.

how are you pinging and who are you pinging??

did you check that the netbios under tcp/ip was on?

198032 2003-12-07 04:49:00 it always is on, im sure it was on, cause its Greyed out with a tick

Plus ping was not working, just host destination unreachable or something
