198618 2003-12-09 03:08:00 I want to back-up a lot of stuff, so ideally I'd like to use a DVD disk, but do I need a DVD burner for that? or can I use my CD-RW??

cheers,

198619 2003-12-09 03:14:00 in a word... yes. but do you have a dvd-rom/cdrw combo? if yes does one of your friends have an external DVD writer? if yes to both, then borrow the burner, as you can still read the discs. if no, u may need to hire or buy a dvd writer whenever u need to read or write a disk.

hope this helps

198620 2003-12-09 03:32:00 If you want to write to DVD discs, then you need a DVD Writer.
If you want to write to CD discs, then you need a CD Writer.

CD Writers sell from approximately $55+GST
DVD Writers sell from approximately $180+GST

At the moment, I don't see why anyone would need to use a DVD writer. 4.7GB compared with 700MB mean for every DVD disc, you need 7 CD disc. The price of these media is about the same. However, the DVD Writers at the moment are not the fastest it will get. They are expensive and slow. Can you not afford any more room to keep an extra few CDs?

You can have 35GB in a deck of 50CDs. The space for storage of those CD is nothing. However, if this is for the company you are working for, and they're paying for it, etc. then why not? GO AHEAD! :p.... Hehe

198621 2003-12-09 05:36:00 you cant burn dvd's on a cdrw .......but heck a cd will hold 700mb and you can 'span' files across several cds' if need be so............cds' are good enuf for most things........... drcspy (146)
198622 2003-12-09 07:10:00 The best way I've found is to Zip files up with WinZip and set it to span the files across 700MB files :-)

Just tell WinZip to zip your My Documents folder..

I think that makes sense.. Works here...! ;-)
