198442 2003-12-08 09:19:00 I have been asked by a friend to delete her teenage daughters hotmail account that she chats on as she is getting up to no good!
Can anyone tell me how I can do this?
I have her email address and password.

198443 2003-12-08 09:22:00 Well, you change all the personal details and the password to completely different things. Then you wait for a month so the Hotmail servers now reject mail going to the account. I'm unsure of how long it actually is before the account is actually deleted though.

That's the method I use, because AFAIK, you cannot actually delete them (perhaps try contacting Hotmail about it, but I wouldn't bet they would delete it due to security, etc).

198444 2003-12-08 09:25:00 As far as I know you cant delete hotmail accounts.
Just change the password & after X amount of weeks-months inactivity it will automaticly be shut down.

I could be wrong tho

Cheers steve

198445 2003-12-08 09:34:00 goto hotmail options click on personal, sesion expiration, sesion expiration after next logon (chose a time) Jacob4165 (199)
198446 2003-12-08 09:37:00 Usally these are disabled after 3 months if they are left in-active. After this time you have a further 3 months (I think its still like this) where you can sign up again for the same email name. Archibald (180)

All that will do is set a time limit for the validity of your session when checking your emails via www.hotmail.com.

Say you enter your email address and password at 3:00pm, and you have your session to expire after two hours. Then, if you have had your browser open, logged into and checking/sending/reading your emails for two hours, upon your next action, you will be asked to re-enter your password.

198448 2003-12-08 09:40:00 I noticed they've changed the interface again. Archibald (180)
198449 2003-12-08 09:44:00 as every one above has said is Not to sign in to the hotmail account then after 30days the account get deactivated then after 90 days the accounts get remove/delete. stu140103 (137)
198450 2003-12-08 09:48:00 Indeed they have. I'm thinking it looks remniscent of the screenshots I have seen of Longhorn, so perhaps they are trying to get some sort of standardised look for their services.

May I also add that simply changing the password (whether or not you also change the personal details so they are not stored on the servers; although backups would still have her details) will not stop her from simply creating a new email address. Hotmail/Microsoft couldn't care less what their members do (so long as they don't go outside of the law, such as terrorists using their service to communicate), they will most likely see everyone as another user of their service ("aren't we better than the opposition, we have this many users" - this can draw in better advertising deals, etc).

Perhaps something simpler, such as her parents monitoring what she does, would produce better results. Not many people are happy when other people have found their passwords, using keyloggers or such (of course, you might simply have been told by your friend, who asked their daughter, or something like that), and I should know - when I was rather more immature (four years ago), I used a keylogger to find out my sisters password and distributed it to all her friends via email. Of course, she was not happy, and I wasn't happy with myself in hindsight.
