| 198305 | 2003-12-08 05:23:00 | Running XP Home, and for the first time since I've had this PC, I need to open a floppy file in A Drive (yes Virginia, there still is an A Drive). However, the "System Administrator" refuses to let me use my A Drive. I thought I *was* the aforementioned SysAdmin, but I'm not, and I can't find where to change whatever needs to be changed. Can someone tell me what to change? And don't anyone invite me to join the Bill Gates Fan Club ...... |

| 198306 | 2003-12-08 05:44:00 | Hi WalOne, When you loaded XP you most likely would have been prompted to enter an Administrator password as well as set up a normal User account. To get around you initial problem accessing the "A" drive you can right click on the floppy icon and the dialogue box should give you the option "Run as" or something similar. :) If you select "Administrator" it will then prompt you for the admin password. Enter that and it will permit the use of the floppy. To permanently alter your user account to allow full control you need to go to the users in the control panel and alter the setting for your log-on account. :) HTH |

| 198307 | 2003-12-08 06:15:00 | Thanks G - all of this was pre-installed on Compaq and I don't recall the detail of setting up the administrator account. However, be that as it may I now find my floppy is stuck there, and nothing at all happens, so when I get time, I'll have to get the crescent spanner and a tyre lever out and if that fails, then a lump of 4 x 2 should fix it. Stay tuned. Just nobody invite me to join a Compaq or HP Fan Club either! | WalOne (4202) | ||
