198220 2003-12-07 20:31:00 maybe killing isn't the right word! But If I have a mozilla browser open, and click on Thunderbird, it opens . However when i attempt to do anything in Thunderbird like read an email (have to click on it to open it) Thunderbird shuts down, with the mouse cursor changing to Pop-Up Stopper's red 'cross' thingy (symbol for banned) .

Pop-Up stopper is obviously seeing Thunderbird as a new 'window', and promptly killing it . How do I stop this? I can press CTRL at the same time as clicking things in Thunderbird, but its annoying and I shouldn't have to do that . . .

Same thing happens with if there's already an Mozilla browsing window open, and i click on the mozilla icon to open another one . . . it opens up and then shut down again, with the red symbol . That doesn't worry me much because i usually open a new Tab within one browser . . and do all my surfing in one window . . .

But with Thunderbird . . . how am i meant to do emailling etc while holding down the CTRL button at the same time?

198221 2003-12-07 20:41:00 Are you talking about the full version of Mozilla or Firebird? Mozilla has its own email client whereas Thunderbird was designed to complement Firebird. Also, are you referring to Mozilla's pop up stopper or is Pop-Up Stopper a third-party program? If so you should not need it as Mozilla has its own popup stopper built in. tommy (2826)
198222 2003-12-07 20:45:00 I am talking about Mozilla Firebird and Mozilla Thunderbird (i downloaded them separately...)

Pop-Up Stopper is a third party program. i use it because Mozilla's pop-up stopper doesnt work. Still got ads popping up, so I use the third party program Pop-Up stopper.

198223 2003-12-07 22:39:00 I see. The Pop-Up stopper program should have an option to exclude certain popups from being blocked, maybe it will allow you to add Thunderbird to its list of exceptions? tommy (2826)
198224 2003-12-08 03:57:00 Download the google toolbar and see how the popup stopper on it works. kk kirrie kiwi (279)
198225 2003-12-08 05:11:00 There doesn't seem to be anywhere that you can add exceptions to Pop-up stopper? caffy (2665)
198226 2003-12-08 05:28:00 Hi Caffy

Having a look at your Pop-up stopper program (is this (www.panicware.com) the one?), it seems that only the paid version will allow you to add exceptions. Perhaps you might like to try out another similar program instead?

I am sure someone from PF1 can recommend one that doesn't cause this problem with Firebird and Thunderbird :)

198227 2003-12-08 05:31:00 Hang on .... just realised that you shouldn't even be getting pop-ups if you are using MozillaFirebird.

Take a look at Tools > Options > Web Features and make sure the settings are correct.

198228 2003-12-08 06:27:00 I am inclined to agree with Jen that your Firebird settings could be wonky. It is very very rare that I get any popups at all with my Firebird but I am willing to test it if you post the urls to some sites that give you problems. :-) Susan B (19)
198229 2003-12-08 08:27:00 Jen C, yes that looks like the one I have got - downloaded it a long time ago so cannot remember where it was from!

I'll have a look in my mozilla settings and see if everything looks ok . . . thanks :)

Susan B - I'll have a look in my history for the websites that had ads popping up IF the settings in Mozilla look okay to me .

cheers,
caffy
