Sorry I'm not up on the play regards USB modems (except to avoid them) but, it could mean the signal between the OS/computer to the modem or the modems ability to comminicate with the outside world, I'm not sure. if your browser can access it then it is probably in the modem settings or in the connection between the modem and the exchange. | 198470 | 2003-12-08 23:14:00 | I had a Dynalink ADSL ALE070 USB modem, you don't access its interface via a web page as the connection isnt ethernet. I changed to a router as I wanted the other PC to have its own net connection rather than sharing through the main PC. I had no problems with speed or otherwise with the USB modem on Jetstart. The only issue was when I tried setting up a Smoothwall box with it as Linux doesn't provide a driver. With mine the link light would flash and the status would be "Training" if you opened up the Globespan Virata program. After a few mins it would 'lock on' to the connection. Sometimes it would flash forever and I found re-booting the PC solved it. This was only every now and then. I would check with Telecom first that ADSL is actually connected to your home. Then I would go into the Set-Up Start / Programs/ Globespan Virata / Installation or something like that, and ensure you have the right ppp & GMT protocols. Detals of these are in the PDF set up guide on the CD ROM. J :D |
