2003-12-10 01:46:00 | When I try to open graphic OE email attachments with .jpg extensions, they refuse to open. Have never had this problem before so obviously have done something cuckoo. What I get is an error dialog box which tells me "Windows can't find.exe. This program is needed to open files of the type .JPEG Image" If I press the "Locate" button in this D Box window I get W.Exp tree come up . Can a graphics guru please tell me: 1. Where in W.Expl can I find this "exe" programme? 2. What would be its exact name as lots of files have an .exe extension? 3. Once I locate it, what do I actually do with it to enable me once again to open these enticing email photgraphs? Sorry to have to ask what are probably pretty basic questions but some of us are a bit further left on the learning continuum than most F1'ers

2003-12-10 01:59:00 | You should be able to use internet explorer to open the JPEG files. The location is C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

2003-12-10 04:52:00 | Do you have this problem with all .jpg files or just a few? If you have extensions for known file types set to be hidden those ".jpg" files could actually be .exe files, eg trojans. | Susan B (19) | |
2003-12-10 07:18:00 | Thanks "Somebody" for your suggestion but no joy. Thanks Susan. The problem seems to be with attachments. I can send and receive photos but I can't open them to view from the email attachment. When I click to open a jpg attachment I'm now getting a new message with the heading Temp Int File\Content. IEP. It says "This file does not have a programme associated with it for performing this action. Create an Association in My Comp - View - Folder Options" When I go into to folder Options how do I go about "Creating an Association"? By the way in Folder Options - Adv Settings under Hidden files, I have the option "Show All Files" checked. Appreciate your help. Can you give me alittle more. Thanks Willbry

2003-12-10 07:43:00 | Hi Willbry You need to remove the tick beside hide extensions for known file types in Folder Settings > View > Advanced. Click Apply and OK. Now save the attachments from your emails some on the hard drive and then go and look at its extension. Make sure it doesn't say .jpg.exe (or any other double extension). The fact that attached jpg's are not opening properly when they have done routinely in the past requires a little safe-playing first as Susan was suggesting. Also scan the attachment with an up to date Antivirus program. If it looks all OK you need to change the files association for jpg's. There is a FAQ on PF1 for changing file associations (click on the link at top right of page). You can associate jpg's with Internet Explorer as already suggested or select whatever image program that used to open up the jpg's.
