With respect, if you were selling ice-creams for $2 and everyone loved them - would you reduce the price to $1.50? ;)

199031 2003-12-10 04:32:00 My local dairy sells huge icecreams for 50c,they dominate the local market, bring in customers who make other purchases and they make money.Word spreads and people now drive right across town to buy there product(granted its a small town).....

Can you imagine telecom in the market selling icecreams?...no,of course not, they wouldn't survive against competion on a level playing feild. They would be too busy sacking all the workers then giving the head honcho 3 million for deciding to do it,then they woulld drive up the prices of the product to pay there saleries.

And the uptake of broadband so far in nz is probally to small to be measured(jetstart dosent qualify).

Maybe its because of our pathetic broadband service that makes people use the net more often...They dont have a choice, whatever they do is gonna take hours...ok,minutes.

Really, here in Auckland . . . . um . . its about $2-4ish . . sh*t . . . lets all go down to Wanganui for holiday ;-)

Anyway, I wouldn't be suprised to find the margin of error to be a significant percentage . The amount of people surveyed was 100 . Thus, for every person was 1% . Also, some people say they use the computer but only once every a while . Having been overseas quite a few times, i'd say New Zealand are small users . We try do everything, but other than farming, have not been able to do much . Also, farming was like . . . 1800 and before . . . are we missing something here?

Seriously, get off the computer and go visit some of the hi-tech areas developing in Asia . We'd all be very suprised at how fast they are improving .

I would consider our internet to be third world standard . Thus, I don't criticise people coming from other third world nations . At least they work hard . . . unlike some . . . here in New Zealand . . who wouldn't get off their backsides, but instead, stay on unemployment benefit . Trust me . . . their are people from our country who just don't work . When asked to provide evidence that they don't work, they just go down to the lawyers, doctors, accountants office and try get a job . Off course they're not going to get one, and so, they get their signatures and continously asks for employment benefit .

I think we should all quit school at 16 and have children, to go on the benefit if that's the case . I'm not going to disclose our household income, but it is definitely much less than what some people on the benefits are getting . But we work hard, and hope for a better future .

P . S . Yes! We still pay taxes, even my personal hard earned pocket money from circular delivery gets taxed, for the sake for keeping lazy "bummers" happy and alive

199033 2003-12-10 21:45:00 You wouldn't be talking about that news that there were a very small amount of single mothers on the benefit who were getting ~$1000 per week?

I can understand your attitude towards the people who are too lazy too work, but you have to take into account that there are people who are on the benefit because they actually can't get jobs, and it is not their fault. Take for example disabled people who might be on the benefit, they can't exactly find a job that will pay them and cater for their extra needs at the same time; at least not easily.

And then you've got victims of abuse, single parents (and no, not every mother with three children or so gets $1000 per week - as I said, it was released that there were a few of them), and so on.
