2003-12-09 22:09:00 | Hello every one I have a question & one problem to ask 1. - Question I keep running out of System resources (I think I multi task to much or have too much open & It dont help that Win Me might have a resource bug) because as soon as I open Macromedia Dreamweaver MX (and I think Macromedia Dreamweaver MX has a resource bug as well!!, which Macromedia has not fixed!(as far as I know) & my System resources drop like a rock! and that is when I have 3 IE open, MSN messenger, yahoo messenger mailwasher, AVG , resource meter & some times windows explorer The question is, do I need more ram e.g. 512mb (I have 256mb or 224.0MB of RAM or Total physical memory: 223.44MB at the moment) so I can have more System resources or do I need to stop opening so much????(I think I know what you are going to say not to open so much! ;)) And what is the diffences between RAM & System resources??? Are they the same thing???? I will ask my problem, after this question has been answered :)

2003-12-09 22:57:00 | While RAM may be beneficial, it will not solve your resource issue. The resources are a finite sized "table" of pointers (called "heaps") that are allocated to processes. When the table is full, resources are used up. Doesn't matter how much RAM you have. Some applications don't seem to "hand back" the allocations when that part of the program has finished using them. Thats one of the problems. Some programs are worse than others in this regard. Thats an overly simplistic explanation, but may help. The fix for me when I ran 98 and ME was to reboot 4 times a day. XP does not have this limitation. Instead of RAM, upgrade to XP?

2003-12-09 23:06:00 | Hi Stu, I've experienced this problem while running DW4... when first launching the program it would slow my machine to a crawl for about 5-10 mins till it finally seemed to come right. It did this even if I wasn't running many apps. I ended up adding more memory to my machine (768mb) and this seems to have fixed the problem. I would suggest getting some more RAM (even to 512mb), and see how you go.. You could also check out the Macromedia Dreamweaver (www.macromedia.com) support website. Hope this helps :)

2003-12-10 09:52:00 | Actually Godfather I was reading an article about the subject of resources the other night and while you are right about pre Win2k, WinXP still can be limited by resources but it is unlikely many people would have enough applications open to hit the limit. In the article it suggest using Resource meter and keeping an eye on the GDI resources and one other and by doing that you should know when it is about to crash except if you open a program that really hogs resources. | mikebartnz (21) | |
2003-12-10 18:44:00 | ahhh dirty old resources. I eventually gave up on winME and went and got winXP, no more resource problems here :-) As prior said run the resource meter showing your GDI and USER resources, if these get to around 10% then you know your in trouble.
