198946 2003-12-09 22:07:00 I have consistently downloaded all the critical updates from Microsoft for windows XP. My daughter has a new computer with windows XP and there are some 30 odd updates to be downloaded into her computer. Now she lives in an area where the internet connection is painfully slow due to rural telephone lines and I tried downloading but it was so slow I had to give up.
My question: Is there any way I can copy all the updates, which I presume would be files in my computer, to a cdrom and then install them into my daughters computer ? If so where would I find these files in my computer >
Thanks for any help........heaton

198947 2003-12-09 22:15:00 easy answer: no, sorry.

full answer:

once a update has been downloaded it is installed and then deleted, if you what to use the updates on other computers then there is a way to download with out installing them, then you can install them and the system will not delete them so you can then take the updates to other computers..

hope that made sence.

so this means that for all the updates you have done so far then the answer is no, but for update you do after today then the answer is yes.

as for how to do this?, I cant remember but it has been discussed on this site bofore so you could do a search or wait for the answer to come to this thread :-)

On windows update have a look under other option ( on the left hand side)

Then click on "Personalize your Windows Update " then under" Set options for Windows Update" tick the box next to "Display the link to the Windows Update Catalog under See Also"
The Windows Update Catalog provides a searchable collection of updates that can be installed on Windows-based computers across your home or corporate network. This is recommended for advanced users only.

Then you should be able to download the updates your computer has & put them on a cd & install them on another computer

Hope this helps :)

198950 2003-12-09 22:24:00 heaton,

See the following MS support article on how to download updates from the Windows Update Catalog... (support.microsoft.com)

I would however firstly download and install the Service Pack (SP1a) for Windows XP WinXP_SP1a (www.microsoft.com) and secondly the WinXP Rollup 1 security patches Rollup_1_XP (www.microsoft.com) and do any other critical/security patches after those have been installed.

That's a start anyway...
Cheers, Babe.
