2003-12-09 11:02:00 | "fastsearch" has somehow lodged itself as my home page. Changing the default homepage lasts for only a day and Fastseach reappears. How do I get rid of this unwanted intruder? | gazza911 (4976) | |
2003-12-09 11:06:00 | I'd recommend you scan your PC for Spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy (see spybot.info for download link). That should find the spyware and kill it off cleanly for you. Then try changing your homepage back. IIRC, there's a FAQ here too (by Susan?) on the topic. Cheers Chill.

2003-12-09 11:30:00 | If im not mistaken spybot has trouble getting rid of the parasite that does the redirect to fastsearch,or maybe its coolwebsearch im thinking of,or maybe they are one and the same,i have my suspsions. Anyway, getting spybot is a must, but if it doesnt remove the spyware in question then there is a dedicated tool that will.Cwshredder. www.spychecker.com

2003-12-10 11:42:00 | Thanks Chill, I've installed Ad-aware and the problem did disappear. I tryed Spybot but after doing thescan (60 minutes!) it advised me that I had to pay $40.00 odd to remove the spyware. Gazza

2003-12-10 12:02:00 | Either you've got your wires crossed between Ad-aware and Spybot, or you've got the wrong app here... www.spybot.info should take you to http: Download SpyBot Search & Destroy from there.... See here for the latest Final-release (Stable): www.safer-networking.org And it IS FREE... Fully Free... there is an OPTIONAL donation link on the site and within the program, but you dont have to pay at all. Another thing, scanning should take no longer than 6-7 minutes with the latest updates (Dont forget to check after you install it for the latest Includes) even on a P233Mhz. If you're keen to try a Beta relase (Which I've been using and submitting bugs with for the last month or so with no worries) then try: www.safer-networking.org Hope this helps, good to hear you've got it fixed now though :-) Chill.

2003-12-10 21:04:00 | If "Spybot" is asking you for money then you definitely have the wrong program. The link on the Spyware FAQ page (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) takes you to the correct page to find the Spybot download. It should take no longer than 10 minutes to scan on a reasonably fast computer, a bit longer on an older machine. Greg: Thanks for the plug but you have linked to the wrong FAQ. :p :D

I do it in about 9 on a 233Mhz with the latest Beta Includes . . . on a Duron 1 . 3Ghz it takes about 4 minutes . . . :D Agree still that you have the wrong program :-) |
