| 198702 | 2003-12-09 06:46:00 | Hi Just a simple question. Once a non G Nikon lense like AD AFS is banged into a manual camera body like a FM10, F2A etc.. how is the aperture controlled?? Is it correct the AV ring so it can be used on a manual body?? Q2, a manual lense can be used on a modern body and it can meter with it?? Focus is manual. Cheers. |

| 198703 | 2003-12-09 07:01:00 | I used to use my auto focus lens's (Sigma + Nikkor) FM2. Used the aperture ring on the Sigma lens, can't remember about Nikkor lens though. Much the same I guess. | Archibald (180) | ||

Anyway, on a manual camera, you'll need to close down the diaphragm in the lens to get an accurate light reading. Should be able to switch lens to manual. There should be an aperture ring which will work on manual. In the old days, lenses had a preview button so you could stop down to check depth of field, but leave it open the rest of the time. | 198706 | 2003-12-09 09:43:00 | Question is: If a manual body like the FM2A and use a modern AF-D/AF-S lense how to control the aperture?? Does it meter the exposure?? Using a modern body like a D100 or a F100 and use manual lense like AI or AIS how to control the aperture?? Does it meter the exposure ok?? I assume the aperture is ok as all manual and modern lenses except AF-G have aperture rings and can be controlled on the lense irrespect which body is used. I am thinking of a used FM2A or a F3HP camera .... and that the manual lenses are so cheaper would not be bad using them with a modern body/ |

All Nikon/Nikkor lens since 1957 are interchangable on the Nikon body. The FM2's and the F3's are well proven in the field with excellent track records. But most have been trashed to death. The FM2 was the most widely used SLR during the Vietnam War. (just some useless information). IF...you come across a FM10 cheap....DONT buy it as they cheap, nasty and designed for the Middle-eastern and Asian markets. I saw these forsale in shops and markets throughout the Middle East, cheap and sold in plastic bags. And know they were'nt imatations. Just Nikon's worst camera to date. Fact!!! |
