198885 2003-12-10 11:39:00 Talking with other members on a forum, with the same question, and with the answers here, I have come up to TWO possible cards to buy:

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256mb
NVIDIA Geforce 4 ti 4200

Now, the ATI is a tiny bit more expensive, but it has more memory AND it is Direct x 9 card. The Ti has VIVO capabilites but I don't even have a TV in my room and I can't see myself dragging my computer around the house to sit it next to the TV, so I don't think I need it.

Are there any BENCHMARKS/TESTS and comparisons between these two cards?

Oh and why can't I find the "9600 Pro 256mb" card on ATI's website? Does this mean it is by a 3rd party dealer, like ALBATRON or POWER COLOR or HERCULES?

I think that ati is / has brung out drivers for their cards....

198887 2003-12-10 20:31:00 There is support, for sure, but not as good as nVidia's Im told. For now, my GeForce 4 MX 440 pales in comparison to anything Mark will be purchasing ;-) Chilling_Silently (228)
198888 2003-12-10 20:43:00 Can you get a Geforce 5700 Ultra over there?

Now that would be sweet, I would take that over a Radeon 9600 Pro I think.

I see a few of them filtering into pricespy, but not much.

198889 2003-12-10 20:59:00 the Geforce FX5700 would be a better buy than a Radeon 9600pro, but if its possiable to get a FX5700 then its also likely that you can get a Radeon 9600XT which would be a better buy. Manufacturers such as Powercolour and GeXcube have been releasing "overclocked" version of the 9600pro with faster RAM, if you could find one of these it would be a good buy. Both cards are reviewed at www.overclockers.co.nz if your interested do a google search for "GeXcube R9600Pro Extreme" or the "PowerColor R9600Pro 128MB Bravo Edition"

Be careful when buying cards with 256mb RAM as they usually have slower ram(this can be overclocked to the same speed as the 128mb version). Seeing as the 256 isnt much more expensive than a 128mb card this is probably the case. If your wanting to play your games at "1280x1024x32 " then your probably gonna get better preformance from a 128mb card with faster ram.

198890 2003-12-10 23:21:00 Yeah . . I heard that 256mb cards are not doing good in games and are slower, saw it in one of those webpages while ago but cant remember where .

As for those 2 cards, 9600pro will be better than ti4200 .

In nz, the Bravo edition is now is discontinued . Told by guys in the shops when i was looking for that card .
