198865 2003-12-09 19:45:00 I got a visit late last night from a salesperson who claimed he was from Telecom (had some kind of ID card around his neck), who was trying to sell me a cellphone. What i'm wondering is whether Telecom does such things, or is this guy just going around pretending to be from Telecom and trying to sell cellphones to people and making a profit out of it? somebody (208)
198866 2003-12-09 20:21:00 Weird ! I wouldn't believe for a nanosecond that he was from Telecom but I think you ought to call Telecom and let them know.

198867 2003-12-09 20:32:00 I agree. Telecom have very few, if any, retail phone outlets anymore. He may have been from an approved/accredited Telecom reseller of services, not phones. AFAIN the business centres or whatever they are called now are all indepenent.

198868 2003-12-09 20:37:00 Thanks guys. I'll ring telecom and let them know. somebody (208)
198869 2003-12-09 22:47:00 It was genuine. I forget the model of the phone, I think it might be the Nokia 2280 (a Nokia anyway). Telecom were pimping this phone something chronic a while back, we had posters at tech, people walking around and sitting down at tech trying to sell them. Street walkers in the square trying to sell them.

This phone. (www.telecom.co.nz)

Just politely tell them to naff off with a "NO THANK YOU" in such a manner that their jaw drops. :D

198870 2003-12-09 23:07:00 I think it was that phone - but he hadn't started to sell it to me. He spent about 5 mins asking me how old I was, whether I had a cellphone, whether anyone else in the house had a cellphone, whether there was anyone else in the house interested in buying a cellphone etc. before I told him "I had to go", so he left.

I saw he had a folder with a lot of pamphlets - I think they looked vaguely like the link you gave me.

198871 2003-12-09 23:16:00 If you follow the link posted and then to one of Telecom's "Stores or Dealerships", in Welly for eg, there are no actual Telecom outlets listed, eg, Bond & Bond and Noel Leemings aren't operated by Telecom last time I looked. Upshot is they are independent sellers bugging.

198872 2003-12-09 23:20:00 Fair enough. I'm not entirely sure if the guy's ID card was real - it could have been easily generated on a computer. Do Telecom pay a commission for freelance salespeople to sell their phone etc.? somebody (208)
198873 2003-12-09 23:22:00 Telecom Mobile probably do pay a commission to such people, who will likely be under the Telecom wing but only for that project. godfather (25)
198874 2003-12-10 00:05:00 A mate of mine had a telemarketer try and sell one to him. -=JM=- (16)
