| 198797 | 2003-12-09 12:13:00 | I am running Outlook Express 6 under Windows ME. I have 2 identities set up. My problem is with the address book - it seems to be common/shared & I do not have the "automatic" separate address book folder for each identity. I have tried to create new folders but do not have that option from the menus. I have tried when accessing address book from within outlook & also when starting from the START menu. I created another identity as a test but that also had the same problem. Any clues?? |

| 198799 | 2003-12-09 19:13:00 | Would using Profiles in Microsoft Windows do the trick? Start > Settings > Control Panel > 'Users' or 'User Accounts' or something of that nature. Set up users and tell Windows to seperate differente user accounts with their own application data and everything - this will also give users their own 'My Documents' directories so documents aren't shared. The only real problem I can see is that WinME uses the Fat32 file system which means everyone has read/write access to a drive and can therefore access everything if they knew where to look... Although it would mean users having to enter a username and a password (if required) before logging into Windows and a user would have to log out before another one could check their mail... |

| 198800 | 2003-12-09 19:20:00 | But profiles can make life a nightmare. People wonder where files have gone when they are logged in as someone else. It can be a nightmare. I had exactly this problem yesterday with a couple of people who challenge the definitition of intelligent life and insist on logging in as someone new every day and losing their icons (even though the password for the user they should use is "password"). robo. |

It is easy to setup the address book with individual folders to store each persons contact list which should be adequate. Of course if you were using a Mac version of OE it gives a separate address book for each identity as it does not use the weird file structure that Windows has. |

| 198802 | 2003-12-10 21:10:00 | Thanks for your thoughts. I don't really want to get into setting up profiles /usernames & having to log into my own computer. It is just me using the computer - I use idetities to separate personal mail from my work stuff & as I work from home on a part time basis I want to easily & quickly switch between. I have checked out other tech support forums & can find no mention of this problem. Can't believe it is just me that doesn't get separate folders ! Any more thoughts/ work arounds much appreciated. I use Eudora and find it an excellent program. It is free in ad-sponsored mode. Eudora does allow separate folders for addresses but I am not sure just how "separate" they are for your requirements. Godfather may be able to advise on this if you needed to know. | Susan B (19) | ||

It would mean changing the folderlist when you want to change between work and personal stuff, however that just means dropping a pulldown menu and clicking the appropriate folder. |

| 198805 | 2003-12-11 22:02:00 | The theory sounds great BUT I do not have any options to create folders - just groups & contacts ( I am looking under File menu - is there somewhere else I can go to create folders?) | kidsoutside (4977) | ||

Ok, under "your name Contacts" or "Shared Contacts" left click on either "your name Contacts" or "Shared Contacts" then a pop up menu should come up then you should see "new" > then you should see "new folder" click on that then you can make folders. Hope this helps :) |
