198683 2003-12-09 05:13:00 Good evening people,

I have a number of websites and some are subject to an interesting problem. They become "unavailable" at certain times, usually in the morning NZ time. They are hosted on servers in the US. We are wondering whether the DNS update might have something to do with it, assuming at happens at a similar time daily. If you ping the web server, its there, but the name doesn't resolve. I use Clear's DNS for resolving, so could it be their servers. Can anyone shed any light on this (yes it could be a number of things).

Cheers

Ok, this might sound like a stupid question & you might of done this all ready but have you contact your US host & ask them if they know what is happing??? ?:| Because they could/might shad some light on this???

Good luck solving this :) ;)

Yes, well, they are stumped too (its a small hosting service - cut price - up time is 95% of the day :D )

198686 2003-12-09 06:57:00 I use Xtra's Terminator and Alien (202.27.184.3 and .5 respectively) and they seem fine... Even though Im with Ihug.

It may help posting a site in this thread next time :-) See if its just you....

If you're on a WinNT-Based machine, open up a command prompt and type:
nslookup
then type:
server 202.27.184.3

This will temporarily set your dns server to Xtra's Alien server.

Chill.

198687 2003-12-09 08:42:00 Thanks Chill, I've seen nslookup on my Linux box(es) but I've never played with it. I will try that next time. Dolby Digital (160)
