Booting from the created Recovery Disc will enable you to repair the files or full system from the stored backup/image. A CD has a capacity of less than 700MB. Somebody will explain it better but I would suggest you read up on the subject of PC Backup. |

An image contains everything on your computer and can be used to restore everything ie, to a new hard drive in the event of HD failure. |

| 1352469 | 2013-09-02 08:19:00 | As mentioned, get yourself an external hard drive with a large enough capacity on which to store your backup needs and whatever else you choose to store. My ext drive contains a Full Backup including a Disc Image, updated weekly and seperate folders with all of my music, videos, documents and more. Your initial post indicates that you would expect to backup everything to CD or DVD media - forget that idea. You can create a Recovery Disc on CD to use in the event of a problem, or if installing a new internal hard drive. The recovery boot cd will give you access to the Disc Image on the ext drive. You can read up on this here: www.google.co.uk |
