1351753 2013-08-22 00:27:00 So I got one of those cheap tablets and feeling like throwing it against a brick wall is putting it nicely ...I got it thinking it'll do for the light tasks I want it for. WRONG, it is CRAP. How anyone can go from a laptop to a tablet is beyond me...

pm me if you want it coz I have managed to restrain myself from smashing it. so far.

Really that bad? How much did you pay for it? <$100?

1351757 2013-08-22 01:04:00 I had an Apad: barely usable .
I know have a Samsung Tab2: its a thing of beauty

A tablet is not a notebook replacement though . Most tablets are just toys with email if we're being honest.

Because they get a proper tablet not a piece of rubbish ;) If you genuinely want a laptop replacement, you have to put some thought into your choices . If you run windows-based applications, you'll want a Win8 tablet . If you just need basic applications on the go like web & email - maybe a smartphone is a better choice . If you want the functionality of a laptop (including keyboard etc), in tablet form, and aren't tied to Windows OS, then the likes of the Asus Transformer are awesome imo . But too many people expect to replace their $1200 laptop with a $100 tablet and wonder why the experience sucks .

Sorry, but those 'cheap' tablets are, for the most part, cheap for a reason . They're terrible . I'm yet to see a cheap, no-brand tablet that even comes close to the branded ones . Even the ~$200 HP Slate 7 is awesome compared to the likes of the Apad and Chung Pak Pei III Alpha Ospeller or whatever other crap they are selling for $130 these days . My only advice to someone buying a cheap tablet, is don't .

1351760 2013-08-22 04:45:00 I got a Nexus 7 for $310 recently, that's the starting point for good tablets really. I also have a TF300 transformer with a keyboard dock that cost close to $900, I like both of them and they perform very similarly but I'd give the edge to the nexus. Contemplating selling the larger one as it gets less use. There are also a few "ok" tablets in the $180+ range - generally dual core machines with cheap screens like the HP or Acer 7" tablets.

As for replacing a laptop, why do so many people try to make tablets a productivity tool. Almost every serious review I've read since iPads first started the tablet craze again has said the same thing. They are a great entertainment device and Great at general viewing/reading/browsing etc but can't compare to even a basic laptop as a business/ productivity tool.

If you want to be able to do a bit of light browsing on the go, read your e-mail, play a few games, listen to some music, watch a bit of you-tube, run the occasional app - then a tablet is a good option. If you want to do anything involving a lot of typing or using actual windows based applications or serious business software stick with a laptop.

Pretty much nailed it in one...

That's like going out and buying a PC these days with a 40GB HDD, 1GB of RAM, a 1.6Ghz CPU and going "Errrm it's super bloody slow and won't run my games?".
