1351705 2013-08-21 09:12:00 What would cause a computer to spontaneously reboot when reboot on error has been turned off? DeSade (984)
1351706 2013-08-21 09:38:00 That option (if its unticked, if you mean the automatically restart option under system failure, means it'll reboot and show the blue screen with a stop error). And maybe the name of a driver, or file that's making it crash

It doesn't mean it will stop it from rebooting if something is making it crash (it wont show a blue screen if this option is ticked). If it shows a blue screen / and a stop error what does it say?

What version of windows is installed?? And can you remember WHAT you installed before it started crashing? I've read that this months updates (with Win7 x64) KB 2859537 can cause a 0xc0000005 stop error on some Win7 x64 systems

1351707 2013-08-21 10:22:00 Computer isn't mine so I have no history of what was installed.
It is a Win7 machine but there are no errors it is just restarting all the time, I barely have time to get a command prompt (so I can run chkdsk) before it restarts on me.

I think its the HDD but I dunno.

1351708 2013-08-21 10:27:00 I would see if it can boot into safe mode. If it can I would install something like bluescreenview and see what that says. So no bluescreen comes up either? You could try and do a repair with the DVD. Or maybe remove the hdd put it in a desktop, then scan it for errors and malware

So it does get into windows before it reboots?? It doesnt just reboot everytime (before it gets the chance to boot into windows)?

1351709 2013-08-21 10:32:00 Yeah I have a dock here but removing it is last resort.
It does the same thing in safe mode, just restarts. The longer the computer has been powered on the quicker the restarts happen.
I don't know where my Win7 disk is so repairing isn't an option currently.

1351710 2013-08-21 10:39:00 What version of windows 7 is on the pc thats having probs (And is it 32 or 64 bit)? You can download an ISO from digital river. Just as long as its got a key for whatever version Speedy Gonzales (78)
1351711 2013-08-21 10:42:00 Its Windows 7 Pro but till it stays going for longer I don't have enough time to check anything else.

I was going to try rebuilding the BCD see if that helped.

1351712 2013-08-21 10:50:00 Hardware not software.
Check airflow, fans are clear and running, properly seated heatsink etc.

I agree, it sounds like a hardware problem. Run a memory diagnostic.

1351714 2013-08-21 23:03:00 very 1st thing to do is remove the HD & backup the data

Then start the diag . IF its a faulty HD (probhably not), you want the data before it gets worse . You also want the data backed up in case one of these restarts screws up the
partitions/data on the HD (unlikely but can & does happen)

Try going into the bios, stay in the bios & see if it restarts then, or boot from any sort of bootable CD & see if it restarts or stays on
