2013-02-25 02:07:00 | Went for an interview for this. Job ID 5846635 Date Added: 22 Feb 2013 Name: Personal Assistant Description: An opportunity has arisen on the North Shore for an experienced Secretary/ PA. We are looking for a mature and reliable person to join our small team. The role will involve lending a hand wherever is needed, including filing, tidying, office organisation, and driving. You will however need specific knowledge in GST and an understanding of computer systems to be effective. On top of this we are looking for organisational and time management skills, along with the ability to work under pressure. Urban Area: North Shore Career Level: Mid to Senior Career Type: Part-time Attendance Expected: Part time to begin with, increasing for right candidate Pre-Requisites: Knowledge of GST. Understanding of computer systems. The guy started off saying he doesn't have a sign up as he doesn't want to advertise himself, his last secretary left cause she fancied him but he has a woman in Aussie been with her since she was 16 and so he wasn't into that, and he has cancer so he's not well today, but he's had some vitamins so he'll be ok soon. Asks am I looking for work cause I'm bored? I say no, I need to pay the bills. (My questions in italics, he didn't ask me any at all) What does he make? Jet boards. Like a jetski but a board, but he needs more funding cause he's had funding but he's run out and needs more and I'd need to help him sort that first, one of them is from DOC. (Dept Conservation). Also he hasn't got any money cause it's so hard to do anything in NZ these days, he's on ACC but he's getting funding and then he'll go off ACC. I'd also need to do his GST cause he's several thousand behind cause he sacked his accountant cause the accountant wanted $6500 to do his GST return, and I'll have to read everything to him as well cause he can't read. What computer systems does he have? Um, um, rummages in a drawer and finds MS Office. So is this installed? Dunno. SO does he keep track of everything through a manual book at present then? No. On computer. No. He doesn't, the accountant does. SO did he give all the invoices and bank statements etc to the accountant? No, he doesn't open mail either. No kidding - it was all piled all over tables everywhere, unopened. Shows me round, a room with nothing much in it except an upside down table, metal legs not connected etc... That's his cutting table that he was making but he stuffed it up a bit and has left it since. Upstairs, 2 posh computers, a video camera still with sticker - $2299, several really large remote control toys, helicopter, cars etc. Loads of top end toys - cellphones and so on. He had a Telecom bill on the desk too, couldn't see total but it was full of cellphone calls to Aussie, duration average 236 minutes. It was several pages thick. He got some funding but it's gone, he bought a boat, it was only $100000, but one of the motors is broken and the previous owner is supposed to fix it so he can sell it and there was $43000 that something else happened to, and a car got pinched from his premises and he keeps getting ripped off, like the supplier who quoted $2000 but when he went to pick it up they said $4000 so he said no, so they said they'd burn all his stuff, and his stuff is worth $6000 or $7000 so he went to the police, but I'd have to help him with that too. And I can start tomorrow, $23 an hour. How many hours? How long is a piece of string, have to get the funding sorted first, I'd have to help him pay me, he doesn't know about tax and all that, and we can see how it goes, once he gets the funding and pays back whatever, he can then start building them and then market them. He rang another woman but she was maori and in a pool hall and he doesn't like them anyway cause they stuffed the country and was in a pool hall so he rung me and he'll see me at 9:30 tomorrow and start work. ...................... I rang WINZ and asked the job broker if they actually check out these people.......apparently some of them ring the call centre and lodge jobs themselves, so no.... Geez...............this is the state of NZ small business???!!!

2013-02-25 02:58:00 | Unfortunately, it is all too common that this type of "business" gets funded by our tax dollars. | fred_fish (15241) | |
2013-02-25 03:21:00 | Sounds a little like the first place I went for Computer work before I started my own business. Got paid a few times, but the prick still owes me 3K from 10 years ago - and Baycorp only say wait in line with the others.

2013-02-25 03:35:00 | Crikey sounds like someone I know... bought car "A" painted it matt black with spray cans. Messed about with suspension, no cert etc (basically had too much time on his hands and ruined it). Decided engine was a bit iffy (after pulling random bits off it he did not know what they did "to save weight") Got loan off gullible flatmate and purchased car "B" - transferred working engine from "A" to "B" car in one weekend. Rushed it like everything else he does. By Tuesday motor blows up (re-used old gaskets etc etc). Then next weekend swaps motors back over again. Again rushed it... second motor blew up. Went to WINZ and had a cry... they gave him some money to fix his car. Currently has two identical cars both with blown engines. Now is moaning that he has no money and no car. Blames everyone else except his own stupidity. | Disco_Dan (16576) | |
2013-02-25 04:31:00 | I found him on the companies register, he didn't lie, he did start 13 years ago and it has changed names several times. There were other directors on a few, wonder how much they lost? And I found this: www.msi.govt.nz Name%3D%26Fund%3D%26Sort%3DOrganisationName%26Dir% 3DASC%26StartDate%3D1%252F01%252F2012%26EndDate%3D %26action_search%3DSearch Wonder if the Ministry checked anything first? And he's on ACC as well?

2013-02-25 10:12:00 | Similar to me when I got a job from a West Auckland work broker via WINZ to work in East Tamaki. My indian boss - a nice genteel techie/marketing type - basically got me to run one his companies in a massive garage. He was the sole supplier for a major plastic petroleum product in NZ. I was hired, as sole employee, as a internet product and customer researcher for NZ market. I saw him once every 3 weeks for a quick chat. He mainlly talked and showed me pictures of his new 3 storey house out West and new cars. I had to borrow neigbouring tools, forklifts, etc. He would give me a stash of cash to buy them beers in leiu. I had to create from scratch, invoices, delivery documents, database etc. Only did 1 - 2 hours work for a half day. Also sell his rusty trailers in the yard, arrange to tune his other older company vehicles - which I did myself and got paid for that though in kind. Mainly products he imported cheap from India. Then I used friends and family to unload products when they arrived. Courier piled up letters. He was scared to open them, got me to do it - mainly from IRD. He wasowing big. Had to close down and got delisted. Paid me up though and showered me with clothing and low end watches and phones. But silly really - unfocused, bit incompetent, but good potential, major NZ customer gone. Offered me another job in finance...but out West. No thanks...

2013-02-25 21:36:00 | WINZ have come back and told me to tell the Ministry and ACC. Cheek of them....if I can find this stuff on the net - so can they. And they should do their jobs in the first place, then perhaps none of this would have happened.
