1352047 2013-08-27 06:54:00 If you want a better case but under 100 bucks and has a bit more expansion room I'd go for the Cooler Master k280 or the Antec One.
They have more expandability than Powercase PA923. Just in case you want to add more HDD's or dual GPU's.

For PSU's go for Corsair, Antec, Silverstone or Enermax. I think FSP are pretty good as well.

If you look around you may be able to find a GTX 650 ti under $200. I think they are slightly better than the HD 7770.
On the other hand if you don't mind going second hand you could pick up a GTX 560 well under $200. The 560 will smash the HD 7770 and GTX 650 ti. In most cases.
E.g. www.trademe.co.nz
Though you have to consider the danger of no warranty or an irresponsible seller.

Ebay is also an option. I bought my CPU and RAM from there and I saved over $100. Just don't buy second hand or from dodgy looking traders from Hong Kong with super cheap prices. Buy from actual Ebay stores. Shipping is a big deal also.

It's your choice.

Yeah the 650ti is slightly better than the 7770. From memory it goes: 650ti Boost > 7790 > 650ti > 7770

You should be able to get a 7790 for $200 (the direct CUII ones are $220) and you should easily be able to get a 650ti ($170?). I think the 650ti Boost is around $250. You probably won't get a gpu with 2gb VRAM for under $250 (keep that in mind, it's becoming more and more important to have over 1gb vram).

1352049 2013-08-28 06:52:00 Would I be better off going with an AMD CPU and getting a slightly better gfx card + SSD instead? If so, what is the closest AMD equivalent to the i5 4670?

Or is the i5+GTX560/7770/650 the way to go?0

1352050 2013-08-28 07:20:00 AMD is cheaper. But I'm not really too sure on the equivalent AMD CPU. I'd expect the i5 4670 to be about as good as the top AMD chips. But I'm not actually sure.
I'll leave that to the other members to answer.
You will definitely save money if you go AMD. As far as I know the motherboards are cheaper and so are the CPU's

1352051 2013-08-28 09:42:00 I'd skimp on the CPU a little and get an AMD one. The HDD should be 1TB+ for the cost of a couple of bucks.

SSD, agreed, 120GB+ unless you want just one or two essentials on the SSD and can manage manually reconfiguring your OS to use the HDD for Desktop / Docs etc...

Definitely a brand name PSU, if you're going to run a graphics card later on.

Add the graphics card later and just expect to "not game" until you can save a bit. Its a harsh reality really...

For gaming, there isn't really an AMD equiavlent of the Ivy Bridge or Haswell i5s yet. An FX-8350 won't be *too* far behind, but they're only about $20 cheaper, so imo it's not worth the loss. If you think the difference is worth it, then the i5-4570 is probably a better choice. If you can streth for a GTX660, it would make a difference, especially at higher res.

Alternately, drop down a bit on CPU - AMDs FX-6350 is surprisingly good for it's price, and could get you an extra $80 or so towards a GPU upgrade.

1352053 2013-08-28 11:05:00 Ordered the following from Alphacity. Will get a case (probably K280/Antec one as mentioned above) from pbtech locally to save on shipping. Then get the GFX card possibly from Trademe. There is a EVGA 570 for $220 and the other 560 you listed above. Might get one of those or get a new 7770 from pbtech.

1352054 2013-08-29 07:58:00 A solid Intel choice. Nice to see you saved a bit of dough on a mATX board. Hope the build goes well for you :). ChazTheGeek (16619)
1352055 2013-08-29 08:16:00 You can save money on the case if you buy a k280 from PC Online Shop. Their one is 76.00 including shipping. I have bought from them and they have good service.
Or you can get an Antec One from Ktech for $71.00 including shipping.

The difference between the two is that the k280 can fit bigger GPU's and holds up to seven HDDs and three 5.25 drives. But can only support 3 120mm fans.
The Antec One supports 5 HDDs. 5 120mm fans. The HDD drive bay is also facing the back so you won't get HDDs blocking the MB.

They both have basic cable management.

1352056 2013-08-29 11:20:00 Bought the K280 from pbtech for $90. Would you recommend getting this: www.trademe.co.nz ? sahilcc7 (15483)
