1328920 2013-02-20 23:16:00 It's not so much the number of threads about Maori that have annoyed me, it's more that the posts are accusing "all" Maori of being involved, rather than a group or series of individuals. the_bogan (9949)

And here is the curve ball:
All who call themselves Maori (who are conveniently denying thmeselves of the European side of their family) are the ones who are claiming all the money, protesting etc and ruining it for those of Maori decent (that dont deny themselves of who they really are - mixed blood) who proudly call themselves New Zealanders (and incidently getting next to none of the spoils).
So is saying "all" Maori is wrong? It depends on what (or who) you refer to as Maori.

People look at things at all different angles, being right or wrong depends on your own point of view which itself may not be right or wrong.

1328924 2013-02-21 01:02:00 I call myself Maori, I also call myself Scottish. I'm 1 32nd Maori, half Scottish. The rest mongrel.
Apart from a few bills paid by ACC for sports related injuries, I haven't claimed anything.
So please don't tell me I'm ruining it for the rest of New Zealand by claiming all those taxes

1328928 2013-02-21 03:26:00 You're all forgetting that from a legal perspective, that doesn't matter. Whilst the mods may agree with Mr Fry, it's not a stance Fairfax can legally take.

Try again.

1328929 2013-02-21 03:26:00 It's a hard situation for Fairfax, and it is one that is hard to understand. I do though because sadly something similar happened in the telco rules for social sites in italy.

The rules were changed and anything that could be construed as being hateful against creed or religions, fomenting violence or against the establishment was deemed unlawful and needed to be dealth with by the forum provider/s. Ultimately the site provider of the forum was responsible for the content and could be fined heavily and/or shut down.

In a nutshell a 'Postal Police' was created composed with geeky cops, or trained cops to get geeky, that started monitoring various 'hot spots' and online fora. The rest, as they say, is history.

Italy also is a republic based on democracy and all the yada yada that goes with that, but if the establishment decides your rights end when the next person's rights start then you got to accept that.

There is not such a thing as freedom of speech as much as what they allow us to say.

It is going to be sad, but since I have seen it happen already I am with Fairfax here and will respect their views, and maybe find new sand to dig elsewhere.
