1329316 2013-02-21 21:18:00 Yes I think webmasters are going to have to stop using those pop ups etc.
I don't mind banner adds as they don't takeover my whole page and make me have to click though several steps.

And as broadband speeds up, slow loading will be less of an issue.
But by then everyone will have heard of Adblocker.
It is very popular amongst Trademe users.

I'll have to turn PC World on in my Adblocker....

1329317 2013-02-21 21:21:00 Eh with a decent browser and decent DNS, the speeds are a non-issue here.

EDIT: Non-scientific example, the home page of PF1 loads for me in approx 1.5 seconds, whereas the main Chat forum page loads in approx 2.5 seconds. Hardly worth the effort of even bothering with an adblocker IMO!
IF you're having issues, I'd look at addressing the issues before bothering with an AdBlocker. It's a bit of a "bandaid" fix if you ask me.

1329318 2013-02-21 22:35:00 FB has got to be one of the worst sites with all their crap. Install something like Ghostery. If you use FF.The herald site isnt too far behind. No wonder both take forever to load sometimes lol Speedy Gonzales (78)

Yes I am on standard broadband and I have just turned off Adblocker for PCWorld.
I find that it loads fast enough for me.

And others have said its the sites that have lots of adds and behind the scenes stuff that are slow.
You can see it in the bottom left hand corner status bar.

1329320 2013-02-22 00:09:00 At work I've learnt where the forum button is by memory because it literallly takes minutes to load. A lot of time I use my phone instead because it's a lot quicker. I think it's our systems web marshall checking all the links or something that causes it though, the actual speed is ok. dugimodo (138)
1329321 2013-02-22 18:23:00 Sheesh!

I'm reduced to dialup speed, due to caning the torrents lately, but I can still download the PF1 forums, complete with ads within about 10 seconds (Firefox).

Leaves me wondering how much dross you guys have got fouling up your systems.

I've got Java, Flash and Silverlight disabled, which probably helps, plus a decent web cache.

But trying to load Stuff.co.nz on dialup is almost a write-off.

1329322 2013-02-22 19:33:00 Yahoo is another slow site even on broadband.

No wonder they are going down hill
