1328990 2013-02-22 21:43:00 No idea Beetle, but I've been around these places and other work places a long time and theres generally something else happening in the background. Sooner or later it comes out.

This whole thread has been handled wrong, Advising of new pending law change, then asking for comments, the response would have been obvious.

What would have been better was to make the thread, then close it for comments, thus its advising the members and others who read it, the same as the actual rules.

Speaking of the rules, the very first has been broken
Personal attacks on members, moderators or staff will not be tolerated and may result in immediate cancelling of forum membership.
it wasn't members calling names, the rule applies to everyone ;)

To be completely Honest - I'm starting to think along the same lines as Mikes comment (mikebartnz)

1328993 2013-02-22 22:03:00 Just cancel the chat forum, seems like if you dont have the same opinion as the mods you either get banned or thread gets locked etc
Just keep the help forum open.

1328995 2013-02-22 22:11:00 Well I don’t believe any of you are so stupid as to not know the difference between a “Bill” and a “Statute”. You will be waiting a very long time before the "Bill" ever becomes Law and you can guarantee it won’t be in its present form and won’t be retrospective if it ever gets passed.

It therefore poses no threat what-so-ever to Fairfax

You think the Communications (New Media) Bill is going to fall into a big black hole when the Hon Judith Collins has asked this bill to be fast tracked?

I don't know the date when it is going to be finalised, but some media including Stuff.co.nz have already acted on the pending bill. It is better to have some guidelines in place and not wait until it is finalised. You don't expect members to suddenly change their behaviour on that day without any warning or lead up? You clearly demonstrate this would be an impossible task. I imagine there will be some fine tuning of the bill and how it is monitored/enforced, but the principles will remain the same.

They are:

Principle 1

A communication should not disclose sensitive personal facts about an individual.

Principle 2

A communication should not be threatening, intimidating, or menacing.

Principle 3

A communication should not be grossly offensive to a reasonable person in the complainant’s position.

Principle 4

A communication should not be indecent or obscene.

Principle 5

A communication should not be part of a pattern of conduct that constitutes harassment.

Principle 6

A communication should not make a false allegation.

Principle 7

A communication should not contain a matter that is published in breach of confidence.

Principle 8

A communication should not incite or encourage anyone to send a message to a person with the intention of causing that person harm.

Principle 9

A communication should not incite or encourage another person to commit suicide.

Principle 10

A communication should not denigrate a person by reason of his or her colour, race, ethnic or national origins, religion, ethical belief, gender, sexual orientation, or disability.

- source (www.medialawjournal.co.nz)

Principle 10 covers the broad genealisations about certain ethnic groups that some people seem to make. Zara has tried to point out how to write comments without using the generalisations but this has proved challenging to some. Principle 5 involves harassment. Certain members have 75% of their threads dedicated to pointing out what Maori are doing to "us New Zealander's". Constantly targeting Maoris. Do you think the Maori members of these boards enjoy seeing their ethnic group broadly targeted like this?

People have commented that there have been too many threads on the same old topics, created by the same small group of people that make broad generalisations about Maori. Telling them to just ignore the threads is not getting to the root of the issue. This issue has been mixed up with the pending bill because they are related.

It looks like I was mistaken when I thought the forum would like input into the pending change rather than just being told what to do. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

1328996 2013-02-22 22:31:00 And you prove even the innocent are capable of stirring. It's just the nature of forums, we can only choose how to react.

Everrbody is capble of stirring. In fact probably all of us are guilty of doing it on here at some point

Zara has been the one that has killed it

I highly doubt it's been killed because of Zara. More likely there is certain members that don't like change and want keep things as they are because that they can get away with what they say on here.

1328997 2013-02-22 23:07:00 So youre saying that instead of the requested discussion and input that the mods are asking for, we should sit back and say nothing????????

Or that us poor uninformed, not guilty of trying to cause problems but am saying something but not for the fireworks display from some peeps........ i should sit back and say nothing?????? or others should sit back and say nothing that might enrage these people who manage to inflict and distort what is simple and the good intention hindered the thread?

no offense intended but im struggling to see the point of some of the posters in this thread.......

1328998 2013-02-22 23:32:00 How about someone here makes a separate internet forum specificially for PressF1 users so we can post there and not have to worry about all this PC bullshit.

Rather than this, why don't those who have an axe to grind, or who seem to have a single-minded obsession on one topic, investigate the possibility of creating themselves a blog site (like whaleoil (http://www.whaleoil.co.nz/)) and publish their opinions there? (I don't necessarily disagree with the posters of these repetitive threads, but the sheer volume of them is more than a little wearing)

Hosting of blog sites is often free - and there are certainly a number of good, free and well-supported blog applications available.

Actually, sites such as whaleoil are under constant scrutiny by Big Brother, because of their often controversial views and I imagine this will be will be the case even more so when this law is passed, depending on what public submissions are made to it.

However having your own site would free you from what some apparently see as the "Fairfax tyranny" and allow these people to express their opinions to their heart's content.

There we go! Solutions, not problems!! :D

When it comes down to it, PressF1 is a free public forum, however it is owned and run/administered by Fairfax, and they have final say on what can be posted on their site. This is as it should be. Their house, their rules.

Just because it's free, doesn't mean it's a free-for-all.

1328999 2013-02-22 23:34:00 One thread suddenly determines how I've behaved for 12 years? I think not. I fail to see why you're trying to make a mountain out of it. He was being an ass, I called him out. It happens, get over it.You still dont get it do you. Im not making a mountain out of it. Management is trying to discuss and propose some rules on how to behave, and its forum moderators, namely you, sit there and use your position to personally attack other members and call them pricks and think it is totally fine to do so. And all you can say is "it happens, get over it".??? You have lost my respect Chill. Go and enjoy your power trip Chill, I wont be part of it and I doubt I'll be part of this board for much longer.
