1352476 2013-09-01 11:20:00 recently upgraded to Win 7 from XP - navigating around a new system and discovered there was no updates - tried a couple of fixes, no joy, so downloaded a"fixit" file from MS, ended up with no solution just "W Update error 80070422" - anyone help me out please? jayal (1291)
1352477 2013-09-01 12:50:00 I had an issue like this recently but can’t remember if it was the same error code.
By memory I changed the option to “automatically update” to “never check” and restarted and then did a manual update check and it worked. Once it worked I changed back to “automatically update” and was fine.
Not saying this will fix your problem as there are other issues that can cause this.

1352479 2013-09-01 21:34:00 Looks like that error can mean you've got a virus or something has disabled a service

1. Scan your system for viruses / malware

2. Follow this (windows.microsoft.com)

3. Get tdsskiller then run it (support.kaspersky.com). If it picks anything up select cure then reboot. Rootkits can also block you from updating windows

1352480 2013-09-01 23:08:00 Hi Speedy, (and thanks to berryb & bk T, tried both yesterday, no luck,) - 1. ran AV no problems 2. no entry in services for Win Updates, closest is Windows Installer 3. ran tdsskiller result, unsigned file - Service:wuausary - suspicious object medium risk - copied to quarantine --- Interesting! each time the cursor is on anything related to Win Updates this little circle spins for about a minute then the item opens - what's that remote programme you and I used some time ago? is it worth a try this time? jayal (1291)
1352481 2013-09-01 23:16:00 I had one last week that wouldn't update, tried the Google DNS trick and they came down. Renegade (16270)
1352482 2013-09-01 23:17:00 Is that what its says?? wuausary? Thats not a windows service, wuauserv is the windows update service. Sounds like this service may have taken over somehow (for updates). Should have selected cure not quarantine. Teamviewer is the program. if you want me to have a look either run it after you download it (select run / personal). Or install it. Then give me the id and pw it gives you in a PM Speedy Gonzales (78)
1352483 2013-09-01 23:36:00 in services, the entry - wuauserv - description <failed to read description error code 193> - shall I change something there? jayal (1291)
1352484 2013-09-01 23:38:00 Give me an id and pw when you install teamviewer. I'll have a look. Sounds like something, probably malware has removed / deleted the windowsupdate service Speedy Gonzales (78)
