1351867 2013-08-24 03:07:00 Have a system here getting this message coming up intermittantly.

"Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered"

Lastest driver is installed.
GPU has been removed, visually inspected & reseated. No change

Nothing appears to be overheating.

1351868 2013-08-24 03:35:00 Visual inspection won't tell you if it's failing.

Try another driver - if it's the latest go back one.

If it still fails, it's probably hardware.

1351869 2013-08-24 03:43:00 If a videocard fails you may or will get a 0x116 stop error. The system may crash. Altho with the ATI card that was in this it was definitely failing (0x116 errors were appearing in event viewer). But, it didnt crash the system in Win 8 x64 Speedy Gonzales (78)
1351870 2013-08-24 03:43:00 Visual inspection will find if it's full of dust or the fans not working.

Could go back a driver but it's been running ok on this one for 2 months.

I'm thinking it is on it's way out.
But it does pay to be certain before telling the owner to fork out several hundred for a new one.

No stop error, just the screen going off then back on, then that error message.

1351873 2013-08-25 21:44:00 Could be a software issue as well, I sometimes get those errors, doesnt mean the card is failing...be interesting to see when it fails, under stress while gaming, or just randon when browsing or something... SolMiester (139)
1351874 2013-08-25 22:41:00 How frequently and under what conditions does it happen? It can potentially be caused by bad requests to the GPU, rather than a hardware issue. Perhaps a particular program or something that is a bit flaky? inphinity (7274)
1351875 2013-08-25 22:44:00 The error was showing up when browsing or even at idle.
There had also been 2 recent occasions where the system had crashed & rebooted from a driving sim.
I have changed the suspect GPU with a known good older unit & no issues have showed so far.

Have tried the suspect unit in another system which initially booted ok, then blue screened.

So now have a new GPU on order.
