1351685 2013-08-21 05:58:00 Does anyone know of a dual band (2.4 & 5 GHz) router that can record the individual browsing history of the connected devices. I have tried myDlink but it only shows the current session. I would like to be able check, at the end of the day, what sites the kids have been on with their i devices Davesdad (923)
1351686 2013-08-21 06:08:00 IIRC Gargoyle can do this :) pcuser42 (130)
1351687 2013-08-21 22:58:00 Thanks pcuser42. I am not sure if I want to mod the firmware on a new router though. Davesdad (923)
1351688 2013-08-22 00:27:00 It's safe if you follow the instructions to the letter ;) pcuser42 (130)
1351689 2013-08-22 01:34:00 You're unlikely to find many consumer-grade products that do this out of the box, so a third-party firmware is your best bet. inphinity (7274)
1351690 2013-08-22 04:48:00 Yeah definitely Gargoyle. Why the 5Ghz requirement though? Most consumer routers still don't support dual-band.
Still, the TP-Link WDR4300 or WDR3600 are supported by Gargoyle. They're just twice as expensive as something like the TP-Link WR941ND.

1351691 2013-08-22 09:58:00 And people were worried about the GCSB spying on unsavoury types... but parents and partners can spy all they like on each other and that's fine huh?

Actually, I fully endorse keeping tabs on a kids travels on the web. Just thought I'd throw a twist into the ethics of the whole thing.

1351692 2013-08-22 11:09:00 Another 'twist'. Big companies monitor their in and out email as well!! No one gets up protest meetings over that. linw (53)

1351694 2013-08-30 11:51:00 I will recommend Gargoyle on a TP link router. I was going to buy Parental Control tools program but with Gargoyle I know what webs the kids visit even their google searches. We had a good laugh when I told them. Boy had googled "what girls like in boys". Thanks to Gargoyle we restricted access to Facebook to teen daughter after she posted some nasty comments and some websites we didn't want her to access and download latest TV series.

Edited to add: you can check exactely how many megabytes everybody use and allocate the megabytes you want. You can request for internet connection to shut for a period of time like night for a chosen user. Amazing what that Gargoyle do.
