199552 2003-12-11 16:12:00 My computer is re booting randomly. The fan sounds like it should be on the wing of a 747 and am wondering if overheating can cause my computer to reboot on its own accord? I can't run a virus check due to the fact that the computer doesn't stay on long enough for it to finish. Also is there anyway I can check my systems temp? PaPa (4595)
199553 2003-12-11 18:29:00 depending on the age of the pc and I think yours is quite new, Most bios have whats called SYSTEM HEALTH that may give you the operating temp'. But the reason for rebooting maybe many.
Could you post your computer specs back here ie Mother board, ram, video card etc the more information you can give the better. It will help. Including your operating system.

199554 2003-12-11 23:20:00 You could have the blaster worm. Are your Windows Updates all installed? If it is the worm you can get a removal tool from here (securityresponse1.symantec.com) and learn more about it and how to prevent it here (www.microsoft.com).

On the other hand if the rebooting and increased fan noise is recent then you could have a cooling problem. Disable the rebooting to allow Windows to display warning errors by right-clicking on My Computer>Properties>Advanced>Startup and Recovery and remove the tick from "Automatically restart". You should then be able to report any error messages given.
