2003-12-11 05:11:00 | I am running 4 PCs at home (Win XP Pro/Win XP Home/Win 98SE/Win2000 Pro) and the only one that can correctly access and use Windows Update is the Win XP machine!! The other two always come up with Windows Update Error. With Win98 would this be because Micro$oft stopped officially supporting Win 98 in June? Didn't realise that this extended to Windows Update!! But why the Windows 2000 & Win XP Home machines not working with Windows Update either. And do suggest I use Micro$oft's online help cause it is @@$!!@@! hopeless. Thanks in advance. C Ali

2003-12-11 06:00:00 | How are they not working. Do they go through the retreival of what updates you need but won't download or can you not access the site. if the former note down what you need and go to the download site and download the files individually. For win2k go here (www.microsoft.com) and for 98 go here (www.microsoft.com) Its handy to download the files this way especially if you want to implement them over the lan. Cheers Murray P

2003-12-11 07:19:00 | This was to be just another confirmation that Windows Update still works with 98SE (IE 6) but perhaps I should also be the first of my sex to welcome Murray P to the Ladies | Laura (43) | |
2003-12-11 07:27:00 | Thanks Laura. I actually think I fitted in rather well and then, of course, I spoiled it all by doing what comes naturally to all (ok, most) men. Cheers Murray ;P

2003-12-11 10:43:00 | Hi Chemical, have you tried to downlaod manually? BTW my Windows Update went on the blink a while back about the same time IE was playing up (used only for accessing the windows update site because they don't like Firebird) . It's going now and so is IE after I reinstalled windows (a diff reason) and then re-applied my patches but, not before it was patched . I'm not suggesting you reload windows to restore the auto update feature but, I believe it was one of the earlier patches on my old install that did the deed . There was a rash of complaints re windows update after the Blaster patch and some of that was discussed here on PF1, could be related . I usually like to steer clear of the auto update and download the files individually then I have the files if I have to reload windows . this time I was running out of room for my backups and hadn't burnt everything to cd so I guess rolling back some of the (IE especially) patches might work as well . HTH Murray P > You fitted in so well I didn't even notice you - Hmm, not sure how to take that, might need reafirm my masculine side > but you'd have been forgiven anyway for the number of > helpful posts you tally . Ow shucks :8} > (Now maybe we should let the original poster have his > topic back) Done, hopefully . Reaching a bit .
