199588 2003-12-11 19:55:00 Morning all. My first time here.

It seems whilst surfing I have picked up some glorious bug that has commandeered my Internet Home Page settings, and won't let me change it.

It's some horrid page called Fast Search or something, and when I go into Options to change it back to what it was, the next time I turn on the PC I'm back to the intruder.

No doubt this is an easy fix for those with the necessary "smarts", can someone please help me find and delete this @#$% thing!!

Cheers

199589 2003-12-11 20:06:00 Firstly, Welcome to PressF1.

Your computer has been hit by Spyware, which may have come about from downloading some software which bundled it. The way to get rid of it is to download a program called AdAware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/), to remove this spyware. It should also fix the homepage problem.

Otherwise the FAQs on the top of this page might also be of help. Try:
FAQ 8b pressf1.pcworld.co.nz
and
FAQ 8a pressf1.pcworld.co.nz
and the other

Good luck.

199590 2003-12-11 20:09:00 Hi and welcome to PressF1!

Sounds like you need to download and install Ad-aware (ftp.pcworld.com) or Spybot (download.com.com %2Finternet%2Fspybotsd12.exe) (or both!) to get rid of the offending program.

199591 2003-12-11 20:10:00 Forgot to add, once you have installed one of the above programs don't forgot to run the update check from within the program (just like you would with antivirus software) CYaBro (73)
199592 2003-12-11 23:55:00 Blimmin' awesome guys.

Adaware and Spybot didn't work, but CWshredder got rid of that puppy!

Thanks VERY much for your help.

199593 2003-12-12 03:21:00 Spyware is becoming a bit of a worry. I run 3 programs now and from what you say about Adaware and Spybot both missing this invader, who knows what others are also being missed?

Whats the solution team?

199594 2003-12-12 03:54:00 Looks like a game of "catchup" for adaware and Spybot. This is a new strain, and looks like it does things a lot differently. A quick read here (www.spywareinfo.com) may be informative. Pheonix (280)

Easy, read this (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) and stay away from dodgy sites. :-)

199596 2003-12-12 05:36:00 You all probably know that Browser Hijack Blaster from

www.wilderssecurity.com

will detect attempts to alter the homepage setting and give you options. Provided you have it running whilst on the Internet of course

Cheers
