2003-12-11 08:36:00 | hi, im running an NVIDIA tnt2 4x AGP on a gigabyte k7 triton mobo with a 850mhz duron installed in it. the board is 8x my card is 4x but on games i dont get very good fps, my friend is running a 466 with a 2x 8meg vanta and he gets better fps than me. ive enabled 4x in the bios and tweaked whatever i can do to make it better in the NVIDIA control pannel. why?

2003-12-11 09:06:00 | 98se drivers are 53.04_win9x_english.exe for NVIDIA tnt2 i get 15-40 fps in cs and about 25-60 fps in quake2 both games 640 res openGL | Jimmy D (2061) | |

2003-12-11 09:48:00 | I would recommend downgrading to a 4x.xx series driver. The newer detonator and now the forceware drivers are optimised for newer cards, specifically the Geforce FX series. | b1naryb0y (3) | |
2003-12-11 09:50:00 | lol a formatted it yesturday hmm yeah but the drivers a specifically designed for my card, not any new gforce or anything else

2003-12-11 09:58:00 | I highly doubt that a just released 53.04 Forceware driver was specifically designed for a fairly old TNT2. The new drivers are designed to work with older cards, but believe me when I say you are likely to get better performance from an older driver. With a Geforce4 Ti-4200 I get better performance using a 44.03 driver than I ever have using a 5x.xx series driver.

2003-12-11 10:03:00 | if you are going to compare the two pc's you good a least post exact details of both. also benchmark fiqures would be handy. quake3 demoo 001 would be ok. just make sure the settings are the same for both. i've still got a tnt2 m64 here that i can run a benchmark on if need be. | tweak'e (174) | |
2003-12-11 10:05:00 | In that case did you install the motherboard drivers? And what the other guy said is correct, the older release of drivers work far better on the older cards. The new release are desined for optimising the latest cards. When you say the drivers are for your card and not an fx,they are infact for all nvidia cards and will be desined with the fx in mind. Case in point,i have a g2mx around somewhere that absolutly motors on drivers released in the year after the card was purchased,if i load the latest or even a set of drivers made in the last couple years onto it then the performence loss is very noticible.
