2003-12-11 01:41:00 Each time that I access the Address Book in OE v 6, I find that a garbage file called (~) is left upon the desktop. It is mostly computer language but has some, not all, of my contact names. What is it? Is it dangerous? How do I prevent it? My virus protection is up-to-date and all patches have been applied. I am using Win XP Professional. Your help appreciated Noel (2841)
2003-12-11 01:56:00 That problem is caused by one of the Windows updates. If you do a search for tild on this forum you will find more info about it. :-) Susan B (19)

2003-12-11 03:01:00 THank you for your help, I guess I will just live with it and stop adding addresses automatically Noel (2841)
2003-12-11 04:12:00 I found this article about the ~ phenomenon with Outlook Express recently whilst zooming around the net. It explains it nicely as well as a suggesting about saving that ~ backup file for safe keeping.

What is the Tilde (~) file that appears on Desktop (www.pchell.com)
