199698 2003-12-12 01:50:00 Any ideas what to use on Mandrake 9.2 to get connected to Yahoo Messenger.
I have used the Redhat 9 version from Yahoo but I keep getting ¨segmentation fault¨.
Cheers

199699 2003-12-12 02:22:00 Gaim will do the trick nicely! - http://gaim.sourceforge.net
It will also do other IM Protocols at the same time.

199701 2003-12-13 20:19:00 Thanks guys.
Got it and it seams to work ok
Mandrake 9.2(newest version) only has gaim 0.68, the latest stable is 0.74. Mandrake is a bit behind the 8 ball here i think.

199702 2003-12-14 05:18:00 I would HIGHLY recommend 0.73 at least for GAIM.... Worth downloading...! Chilling_Silently (228)
199703 2003-12-15 04:59:00 I did D/L 0.74 Chilling, It works great on my machine but no sound on my wifes one.
Any ideas??
Her machine will play other sound such as the kde logout .wav etc, just seem to be gaim.

199704 2003-12-15 05:09:00 Did you compile it from source of use the rpm? It only worked for me when I compiled it from source and not using the rpm's.

If you download the source, compile it like this:

rpm -e gaim (this will remove the current GAIM rpm)
tar xvjf gaim-0.74.tar.bz2
cd gami-0.74
./configure --prefix=/usr
make
make install

That's it, you've compiled GAIM, and it _should_ work with sound...? Did for me at least on 3x PC's ;-)

Here's some additional build flags you can add when running:
./configure --prefix=/usr

--with-ao=PFX Prefix where libao is installed (optional)
--with-ao-libraries=DIR Directory where libao library is installed (optional)
--with-ao-includes=DIR Directory where libao header files are installed (optional)
--with-audiofile-prefix=PFX Prefix where Audio File Library is installed (optional)
--with-audiofile-exec-prefix=PFX Exec prefix where Audio File Library is installed (optional)

Only do try smoe of those if it doesnt pick it up automatically :-)

Chill.

199705 2003-12-15 05:15:00 I had that with one of my earlier Gaim upgrades - lost the sound suddenly. I just followed the advice given here (gaim.sourceforge.net) and used the command option under preferences to set it to artsplay %s. However subsequent upgrades of Gaim using RPM's worked fine on the standard default settings. Jen C (20)
