199997 2003-12-13 12:48:00 All that proves is that a g4mx is the bottleneck and a good cpu needs a good gpu for optimal results.

Besides that as far as getting good value for money the celeron is outclassed by better cheaper units.Irrelevent if the extra resouces are used,at least they are available if needed.

And age of mythology is a full 3d game,Ive seen a g2mx incapable of running the game at a decent resolution so i don't think an intergrated set-up will run it.Maybe at 640x400 but then u might as well play it on a console considering the ugliness.

199998 2003-12-13 12:57:00 But the point is that not everybody can be bothered to build their own, nor do they have the know-how to do so!

An aside from that, not everybody uses a PC for the same thing as you might (games), so the graphics card doesnt matter quite so much....

It _will_ suffice for a lot of people who dont want to play the latest games, and when I upgraded from a 2mb S3 Trio 64 to the 32MB Shared, it was like a dream being about to run games at over 320x240!!!!

The celeron may be outclasses by cheaper units, but at that speed, Joe Bloggs aint gonna notice it terribly much to be honest.

I'd love to hear anybody (Segfault aside coz I know he will) here who's maxed their CPU constantly for over 3 hours this week, coz I garauntee it wont be many people.. so it makes precious little difference considering the Graphics card is the bottleneck here!

199999 2003-12-13 13:15:00 maxed out for 3 hours you say?

Ive had one of my systems re-encoding a rather large collection of mp3's for the last 2 days solid.

And ive never denied that fact that im very biased. And opinionated.

200000 2003-12-13 13:41:00 I use my PC for dvds music, movies ,surfing 3d games etc so expect it to perform and you dont need to build your own PC just buy a decent one and add onto it upgrade as needed most store built PCs use cheap M/Boards this along with cheap power supply proprietry parts etc this makes them a bad buy though the cost has come down heaps from the bad old days when I remember paid $200 for a 2 meg ram chip for my 286. kiwibeat (304)

200002 2003-12-13 15:16:00 I know that the system they're offering would more than likely deal with what I use my PC for and still leave some to spare. -=JM=- (16)
200003 2003-12-13 17:38:00 Of Course it's good Value for your money. It ,of course, is entry level. It comes with Dell's normal warranty. And one thing that has been overlooked. It has Dell's name on it.
And I bet the warehouse will sell thousands of them.

200004 2003-12-13 17:52:00 for many users .......a great number of whom will never play any game more demanding than solitaire but use email/Word processing/surf the net...............this puter will be more than adequate......

as i said earlier ...a friend bought one......I'll be setting it up for her after all te christmas crap has settled down...gotta network it and fiddle around transferrring stuff from her old puter to the new etc......anyway.....this one replaces her old one which is only slightly less than 3 yrs old..............now that's a Hewlett Packard........ti's a 600Mhz with 64Mb ram.....and a 13gig hdd........and I think a 66Mhz FSB...........(coulda be a 133 ?) - cant remember what kinda video system it's got but it's NOT flash........

ANYWAY.........she paid about $3,500 for that .........less than three years ago.......so when we compare what she's gettign now for less than $1000........well.........I reckon its pretty good..............

sure it's possible to build better......maybe even cheaper....maybe........(dont forget to take the cost of the OS and software into account).... and as some keep saying .......'it wouldn't even look at a decent game' .........well hahahah...........neither will my friend cause she dont play em...........me either............I gotta puter that WILL play games but i dont bother......not interested........hell this beast I'm on now I built myself the BOX cost me $1040 and it's FAR better than I need.....(so I got lucky and won some lotto money which paid for it - not a MIllion tho )

Y'know for what she need this for............it's fine ...........quality ? well we'll see I guess no doubt there's some gonna crap out fast and others willl last for years just like any other product.............

200005 2003-12-13 17:59:00 oh yeh.........as I said to the missus.........if it'd been a 'no name' brand i'd have said 'dont buy' but a dell ............well that's a reasonable name with good backup....... drcspy (146)
200006 2003-12-13 20:02:00 numbersnumbersnumbers. If they can publicise it as a "powerful 2.6ghz processor", then they'll do that, even if it's outperformed by a 1.4ghz duron. It makes it sound better - the "wonderful" world of advertising. somebody (208)
