Filtering out any politics and world economics, i really just wanna be able to know that my computer is going to work when i want it to, im not interested in running high spec games, i have other things to spend my money on.. i just want to do my uni assignments and surf the net without any probs. thanks to chief and jm espesh. |

| 199960 | 2003-12-13 03:42:00 | Then why ask if it can run games in the first place? And the computer is a piece of crap no matter which way you slice it.But if thats all your budget covers.... |

| 199962 | 2003-12-13 03:56:00 | Welcome to the confusing world of buying a computer . At the end of the day Dell are pretty sound machines . I have 2 here, a P200 Pentium and a P233 Pentium II and both go well (the P200 is probably 6-7 years old) . They are slightly proprietory (spelling) but hopefully you won't need to update grade it much - maybe RAM, maybe a bigger hard disk over time - who knows what your computing requirements will be in 2 years anyway - a pc of the specs you mentioned is totally fine for doing uni work etc - we don't all play the latest games . Of course, if you get a local supplier to build you a machine, he/she should be able to provide very personal support . Dell have support via phone and if the pc develops a problem, you will probably have to pack it up and send it away to be fixed (so it won't be fixed in a day or so) . A $1000 pc is entry level and if a entry level pc is all you need, then run with it . Dell is a good brand (they have been around for a few years now) . The problem is, the more people you ask for an opinion about buying something, the more confused you (can) get . PC magazines (including that fine publication associated with the forum) can be invaluable to give you an objective view about buying a pc . Alas there are not many local pc magazines and if you look at international magazines they have these brands we have never heard of (heard of a "Tiny" pc - this was a British brand until they went bust) . |

I think for what you want it for david, it would be ideal. You can't go wrong. I have seen second-hand computers for almost the same price |
