199923 2003-12-13 04:51:00 I have worked on an office PC with Win XP and only 128MB RAM with a slower processor than that and while it was jolly slow it never froze with two or three apps running.

As mentioned previously, have a run through the Spyware FAQ (link to FAQs top right of this page) and give an up to date anti-virus a run. If that doesn't help maybe it needs to go back under the warranty?

199924 2003-12-15 01:47:00 Guys, back in the office today, Monday.
The troublesome PC has been well behaved all day... hasn't crashed once.

The only difference is the removal of Alexa... and the fact that it isn't quite as hot today, ambient temperature-wise, as it was last week.

Who knows?

199925 2003-12-15 01:52:00 Sounds exactly like mine. Just locks up.

XP Pro
Athlon XP 2100
1gb Ram

Can't be ram causing the problem for me, and my computer runs at 58 degrees

It's so hard to track down the cause because it's so intermittent. As soon as I am away from the office, BAMMM, it crashes again.

199927 2003-12-15 02:18:00 yeah, I can't figure out what it is. It goes away sometimes, and you think you have fixed it, but sometime later, it jumps on you again.

Here is some stuff I think could be doing it, see if you have them.

Creative Audigy Soundcard
Geforce 4 with 52.12 drivers or something.
HP Deskjet 720c
Some old scanner

You suggest some things too.

If it's a work machine, complain to your boss/IT department.

Sub-standard work equipment is their problem not yours.

199929 2003-12-15 04:49:00 You could try Mother board monitor 5. Free from mbm.livewiredev.com/ . You can display CPU temp system temp, fan speed and voltages as you are working. Put it on both machines and compare them look for anomolies
