That's good enough for me. ;-)

I was wondering if that was the case, it makes sense then if it is. At this stage I'm not too worried about adding a hub to the equation but will do so if necessary later on which brings me to....

Are there any particular ones to look for or to avoid?

199905 2003-12-13 04:55:00 For home use pretty much any switch will do, as opposed to a hub same thing just a little smarter. Cisco and Intel are at the upper end of the cost scale for, eg, but won't benefit you on a simple home network. Nor should you need rack mountable metal cased switches. You can pick up a 4-5 port generic switch for as little as $30. For more outlay you could consider WiFi wireless or even look at an adsl router with a wireless capability now and drop the cables.

199906 2003-12-13 08:08:00 You may not need a network card in your comps. Almost all modern motherboards have a on board NIC. Check the back of your comps for the Cat5 conection i-gordon (962)
199907 2003-12-13 16:28:00 You may want to check the functionality on the router as well... some don't have VPN passthrough, port forwarding/virtual servers etc which can give you a real headache with some game programs and P2P etc where you need the computer to be directly connected to the net so you can host/create games etc and people can connect to you.

Dynlalink RTA300 does it all basically. Most D-Link modems are useless for the above reasons.

Ritey-ho, looks like the Dynaliink RTA300 is the way to go. I'll have a word in Santa's ear this week. ;-)

Sounds good to me, I'll check them out.

Network cards are installed, that I can guarantee. ;-)

Thanks heaps for all the replies, glad I've finally got all that sorted out. :)
