200039 2003-12-18 01:24:00 What about the petrol stations that are supermarkets? Gull for instance as well as being Woolworths, I gave up going there after I kept waiting in lines for people buying groceries, it was quite a silly move in my opinion as I only went there for gas and didn't think I'd wait over 15mins just for someone who was shopping.

After quizzing someone at the Warehouse, I was told I should ring Dell and find out if it was possible. This was the answer I expected, no one knew the product.

200040 2003-12-18 01:56:00 As I said, this thread is getting pointless. Geez..........

Just make up your own mind, if I was David, I'd probably have no idea who to listen to

To David:
I'm sorry if what I've previously said is not what you and other people want to hear, but it's my personal opinion (and many others to). My advice to you is that, if you've never owned a PC, or have no idea what a PC is besides the box where you can type and surf the net, then go the WH (Dell) or HP or Compaq or whatever. But if you've got to know PC well enough, I'm sure you would realise that there are alternatives to compare against. Make up your own mind, afterall, its your money and no body elses. I reckon the first few replies should be all you need to decide, if you really wanted to use our opinion

200042 2003-12-18 20:56:00 Just a little side note here :)

I just had the pleasure of having a look at a Compaq PC that the Warehouse Stationery are selling for $999inc.

Client bought one and brought it straight round here for some more RAM as they only come with 128MB!!! And the onboard video card is sharing 32MB of that!!

This thing was soooo slow when I first booted it up. It took about 15 mins to get into WinXP and be fully loaded before I could even do anything! (had to test it first to make sure it was workin before I opened it and put in some more RAM)
I would hate to think how many people there are that have bought these and have not thought about more RAM.

After shutting it down I had a look inside and it actually not too bad for the price (except for the RAM!)
The mainboard is an MSI MS-6390U, which has onboard video and network and has a free 4x AGP slot and also has 4 USB 2.0 ports on the back and 2 on the front of the case. It has an AMP XP2400+ CPU and 56k PCI modem. FDD and 48x CD-ROM (should be a cd writer).

After adding an extra 256MB RAM the PC ran much better! (tried to tell the client that 512MB would be even better :))

200043 2003-12-18 22:24:00 The checkout I went to only had one person working there, which meant one person on the checkout and no service thanks to introducing self service. Although I never trust staff putting petrol in my car as I'm afraid they'd leave the cap off when I return. Kame (312)
200044 2003-12-18 22:48:00 WH are the same. Compaq is going to go died now too www.compaqsucks.com Boom (4993)
200045 2003-12-19 05:10:00 Hey David

If your still lurking around the thread check out the following:

PC Gera Study System (www.pcgear.co.nz)

PC Gear Home/Office System (www.pcgear.co.nz)

Ok the spec's aren't the greatest but better than some others discussed here. Need to put software on them but, not bad deals all the same.
