199931 2003-12-13 00:25:00 I'm building up an old PC for my grandson. I've 2 X 64Mb sticks of SDRAM in but it only registers 16Mb. I've changed the jumper settings to 3.3V and the manual says it'll take up to 256Mb. Any ideas please johut (4183)
199932 2003-12-13 00:36:00 What CPU and speed do you have ?
If it's a Pentium or above CPU the memory has to be in matched pairs per memory bank.
Otherwise the PC will not usually work properly.
Is the PC a Brandname ?
Sometimes the RAM chips fail internally, and thus only part of the small memory card will work, and if it's Pentium and later CPU you will get very strange readings then.
Was it a "Big Brand Name PC" eg HP IBM or similar ?
What make/model of motherboard and RAM chip do you have ?
Let me know, I'll have a look around.

199935 2003-12-13 02:11:00 check what bios ver it has, try bios update.

the board i had simaler probs with was also a socket 7. i can't remeber if it was the ps2 port i had to disable for it to work. try setting bios defaults and work from there.

199936 2003-12-13 18:18:00 well I've seen similar happen it's because you will need 'double sided' ram and i'll bet that's single sideded...........the older systems often wont recognize the whole ram........a bios update MAY help but i'll bet it wont...... drcspy (146)
