200395 2003-12-14 09:29:00 Warehouse stationery are selling the Compaq Presario S5020AN with the following specs
15 inch LCD monitor with built in speakers
the processor is a AMD XP 2400+
256MB ram
40gig HD
CD reader writer
6 usb ports
for $1687.49 is this computer ok for general word processing and web surfing.
Is the above system ok to upgrade at a later date.

Hard to say without some hard facts about the motherboard,But probally not.

Yes, very satisfactory.

No, never assume you can upgrade the low end "brand name" computers. Any upgrades will usually be limited to more RAM.

Not saying you can't, as it depends on many things that vary between models, but generally its not an option.

200398 2003-12-14 10:03:00 Just looked a few specs on the machine,Not fully detailed but they give a few clues.

chip-set is listed as VIA KM-266,What this means is the system wont take a faster cpu(the faster models run at a faster fsb then what that chipset will suport).You will be able to add ram,but not faster ram..No big deal though.More ram is an excellent upgrade futher down the path.

System is listed as having intergrated graphics as well as an agp slot so an advanced video card is a viable upgrade.

And you can of course add harddrives and dvd/cd drives to your hearts content(as long as your hearts content is 4)

It also has 2 spare pci slots which give room to plug a billion or so other devices in.
