200328 2003-12-14 06:53:00 Hi all

today i went to the library and saw in the mag shelf for the october 2002 there was knoppix linux. there wasnt a disk in it and our old computer throws a fit trying to load win 95. it has a good old 20x CD-ROM and before i VERY kindly ask scott bartley if i can have that particular disk i was wondering, does anyone who has the disk know if it will run on an AMD k5 166 mhz processor, 32mb of ram network to win xp kind-of-computer?

Cheers

200329 2003-12-14 07:23:00 Aside from the fact that that Knoppix is getting old (Shouldnt matter too much).
You might get a GUI.. A slow one, but a GUI none-the-less.

Damn Small Linux (DSL) may be something to look into (49MB Download IIRC).

It will be slow, but should work.

Networking should be detected automatically, but you'll have to setup samba and smb shares (That's REALLY easy to do).

Why dont you try a REAL distro, such as Vector Linux? The text-based installer is a little ugly, but its fast on slow hardware :-)

Old is a relative term. I tried Lindows 4.0 on my laptop... what a disaster. Tried Knoppix on my P4 2.4GHz 512MB laptop with a usb keyboard and it went beautifully.
