200214 2003-12-13 20:27:00 I am trying to uninstall McAfee activeshield using the online instructions.
It mentions <type=disc> What is this, please?

200215 2003-12-13 20:59:00 Can you post the whole section, rather than just a couple of words? Its hard to know what they mean without knowing the context etc.

Mike.

200216 2003-12-14 04:30:00 Hi Mike - It is talking about the run floder in the registry, which it tells one how to find. Then it says "Right-click and delete each of the following (if present):
<type=disc>"
then a list of McAfee files

200217 2003-12-14 04:56:00 I have had a look at the manual uninstalling instructions for McAfee VirusScan 6.0, and can't see any reference to <type=disc> written there.

Is this what you are following - Delete the Registry Keys - number 6?
Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Run and remove the related entries:

Manual Uninstall of McAfee VirusScan 6.0 (Windows 9x/ME only) (ts.mcafeehelp.com)

Manual Uninstall of McAfee VirusScan 6 (Windows XP) (ts.mcafeehelp.com)

If that is the wrong version of McAfee, or the wrong OS, could you please post back with those details as well as where exactly you are seeing the <type=disc>

Thanks :)

200218 2003-12-14 06:41:00 Thanks for all your trouble Jen
I am looking at a completely different document.
Namely ts.mcafeehelp.com
So I wonder why there are two quite different sets of instructions?

200219 2003-12-14 07:16:00 PS I have actually got something called ActiveShield (McAfee), but I understand it is also the same as Virus Scan. I don't know what version it is. I am not necessarily concerned about deleting all the files. I just want to make sure there will be no conflicts if I install Norton Antivirus instead ssssss (2100)
200220 2003-12-14 07:36:00 What you are seeing is not what should be seen!

The source code for the page shows a mistake.
This coding error (a space) somehow displays on your PC (not on mine) so just pretend that < type=disc> is not there.
Its their problem, not yours.

See below (in bold) the HTML coding which is mistakenly showing up.

<font face='Arial' size='2'>Right-click and delete each of the following
(if present): </font>
<ul style=<font-family: Arial; font-size: 10pt< type=disc>
<font face='Arial' size='2'>VirusScan </font>
<font face='Arial' size='2'>MCUpdateExe </font>
<font face='Arial' size='2'>MCAgentExe </font>
VirusScan O <font face='Arial' size='2'>nline </font>

200221 2003-12-14 08:00:00 Thanks Godfather,
But can you tell me which page I should use.
The one found by Jen C or the one I found?
I would prefer to use the one I found, if it does the trick, as it looks simpler.

No we can't tell you.

You have not mentioned which operating system you are using, which version of what McAfee package you are trying to uninstall, or why you need to uninstall it.

Sorry, but the crystal ball was overloaded trying to find your < type=disc > problem and simply refuses to now part with the rest of the information we all need. Unless you can tell us?

200223 2003-12-14 09:31:00 Thanks godfather,
You did a good job finding out about the source code, it is good to have the mystery solved.
I have Windows ME.
I want to uninstall McAfee ActiveSheild, which I understand is Virus Scan.
I can't find a version number for it.
I only need to uninstall it, to make my computer safe, ie no conflicts, with Norton antivirus that I want to install instead.
All contributions of information gratefully received!
