200123 2003-12-13 07:12:00 Hi all

The last two weeks, when ever I've used my home PC, after 20 mins or so I start to feel motion sickness.

Now I use a pc all day at work and don't have a problem

Any advice?

200124 2003-12-13 07:17:00 Post back with some spec's. Monitor brand and model, video card, OS, resolution. Whats your refresh rate? if its below 60 hertz or lower then it could be affecting you although, 20 mins is pretty quick.

200125 2003-12-13 07:22:00 the physical position of the keyboard and monitor can have a huge impact also... from memory the screen should be level with your eyes, otherwise working on an "angle" can strain your neck. _mike_ (4814)

200127 2003-12-13 07:23:00 The monitor is at eye level, i'm wondering if its the need for fresh air? taxboy4 (579)
200128 2003-12-13 07:37:00 could well be... have you seen sunlight lately? ;-) _mike_ (4814)
200129 2003-12-13 07:59:00 taxboy4 hop over to this (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) thread for the definition of refresh rate.

You should be able to run that at 85 Hertz or above with no problems although I don't now the capabilities of the monitor, give it a go. Choose the option not to restart to enable the changes (I assume that XP will ask that, I use win2K)

200130 2003-12-13 08:27:00 Would this "motion sickness" come on while playing a game at home?

The reason I ask is that I have tried some games that give me almost a physical illness. Quake, Doom etc. I'm not worried about the blood and screams etc

I get a feeling like falling or vertigo.

This has nothing to do with MY monitor as I can get the same feeling watching others play these in networked FRAG meetings.

I can play Links ( golf ) and many flight sims on my computer without getting the same feeling.

I take it that you don't play these sorts of games at Work but just stick to Solitaire or Hearts etc?

200131 2003-12-13 09:10:00 This is a known symptom that some people experience from monitors and/or TV with flickering. Some people can even get seizures as a result eg epilepsy. My advice is ensure you have the highest quality video card and monitor you can afford, or maybe even get an LCD monitor.

Disco lights apparently also contribute to a similar effect
