200369 2003-12-15 03:26:00 Why does it take so long for the FAQ's to load anyway?? Scattershot06 (4844)
200370 2003-12-15 04:03:00 > Why does it take so long for the FAQ's to load anyway??

Because most of them were written a while ago and old pages take a long time to load apart from those accessed through the forum's Search query as zquerty has pointed out, which is weird.

:D don’t kick it too hard James :D

Hello Mary H

Could you or James or some one else at IDG (who works with the IDG servers), tell use what the PF1 server spec's are???? (if that is ok???? ?:|)

Chill said PF1 runs on P3 733Mhz with 3x 256MB Sticks of RAM and a couple of SCSI HDD's on Redhat Linux (Redhat 8 he think) the last time he knew what they were...

Is that still correct???

And if possible what type of server load PF1 has/ gets???

I hope asking this question is ok ?:|

200374 2003-12-27 16:07:00 Well I agree with WTF. Just swap this hunk of junk for one of the free ones out there and you'll make everyone happy.

> Runs pretty good for a free service though don't you think?

No it doesn't. Its the worst forum on the net free or not. As WTF said, the free ones run faster and serve thousands of requests a second whereas yours does like 10?

Also why are you wasting peoples time with such a slow forum?? They come here to help out and they don't have all day to wait for the damn thing to load up and serve requests. Without these people you don't even have a forum so time to get off your ass and do something about it.

200375 2003-12-27 18:04:00 A bit of advice for you:

*If you dont like it here stay away.

* If it was that bad no one would come here

I have been coming here everyday for the last year or so and have found it to be the most helpful place on the net, and I am sure I am not alone.
So what if it is a little slow sometimes, who cares.

People who moan about this sort of thing really p@?s me off, its like people writing into the TV guide complaining about language or nudity on the telly, if you dont like it or it offends you DONT WATCH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

200376 2003-12-28 06:30:00 It hgappens to me from time to time just as chill describes. The header comes up then there is a www until the post info arrives. Checking other sites proves that there is nothing wrong with my connection (Jetstream full speed) but going back to PF1 the problem remains.

I was wondering if it was some obscure configuration setting (at one or other end of the link) that only affects a small number of users.

Cheers

200377 2003-12-28 06:42:00 The forum is not slow; it only goes slow at random times, and not everyone has experienced this. Much investigation would be needed to find out why it sometimes slows, so you cannot immediately blame it on the forum software. agent (30)
